Nightmare Fuel / Trials of Desperation

  • The executions, of course:
    • The first execution, Contempt of Court. Ema is dragged into a mockery of a courtroom, with a jury of paper people interrogating her. On the judge's (Monobear's) cue, the paper jury rush forward at Ema, dragging her and tieing her down to the elongated judge's podium. They stab her — all in non fatal places — with knives labelled with words such as "Fear," "Anger," "Betrayal," etc, before a giant gavel, imprinted with the word "loser," smashes Ema.
    • While not an after-trial execution, Final Performance is still pretty horrifying. Itami is placed on a large wooden support inside a circus tent, where Monobear, acting as a ringmaster, prepares cannons to fire objects at Itami in order to cripple him. ...Except with the final cannon, Monobear accidentally destroys the tent, and kills Itami on accident.
    • The second execution, Fright or Flight: Bait and Switch. Goro is brought into a dark hallway, pursuited by some sort of monster — the readers never find out exactly what it is. On his way to the exit, the walls close in on him, and while he technically doesn't die, the walls wind up completely crushing his legs.
    • While also not exactly occuring after a trial, nor killing it's victim, Cat's Out of the Bag definitely deserves a mention. Keiko is chased down by a cat until she reaches a dead end, where the enormous cat corners her and claws her eyes out. Bonus points in that Keiko absolutely hates cats.
    • The third execution, Even the Cop Gets in Trouble. Abasi is thrown into a jail cell. Outside of the cell, Monobear drops a lit oil lantern into a trail of gasoline. Abasi backs away from the bars and pushes against the wall, causing the wall to break and send him falling backward into some sort of Egyptian tomb. As the area around him continues to burst into flame, a chain drags him back into a spiked sarcophagus before the door of the sarcophagus slams shut. However, he doesn't bleed to death — no, then the sarcophagus itself goes up in flames and melts, taking Abasi with it. Ouch.
    • The fourth execution, Well It's Still Better Than Starbucks. Lucius is placed in a giant coffee grinder, and he voluntarily lays back into the coffee beans underneath him and accepts that this is how he's going to die, but at least he's prevented the motive from taking place so his sister gets to live. But as he prepares for death, he notices none other than his little sister struggling to stay afloat, calling for help. Lucius rushes to save her, since he killed someone, he should die, not her! However, it turns out it's a Monobear doll in a wig holding a voicebox that has pre-recorded cries for help. Lucius grips the doll in a tight hug and screams in agony and defeat, and after that the coffee grinder finally kills him.
    • The fifth execution, Manhunt for the Monster. Hasumi is placed in a black and white film with that title, and at first we see an angry mob of villagers breaking into the castle to look for Hasumi. They finally find Hasumi sleeping in a coffin, and it becomes clear that she's the "monster" of this movie; the villagers overpower her despite her pleas for help and struggles. The villagers hammer a stake into Hasumi's chest, but it misses her heart completely, causing her immense agony but keeping her alive. A second stake is hammered, this time into Hasumi's sternum, and it has to be hammered into her sternum over and over again before finally impaling her heart and killing her.
    • The sixth execution is non-existent, making it a subversion. Nana Itomori, SHSL Costume Designer, killed herself. Since it was a suicide, and the class figures it out, there's no culprit to execute.
  • In Chapter 3, Monobear announces that Yosu, whom he has kept locked away in a separate room to starve to death, has finally died. While not exactly an execution, nor an especially cruel murder, it's still a pretty scary way to go. Think about it — being locked away for days, hell, weeks, with no food or water, until you finally, slowly, painfully die. Doesn't sound too fun, does it?
