Nightmare Fuel in The Croaking:
- The lives that crows and other corvids have to lead: being forced to join a murder (essentially a street gang) for protection from other murders, kill somebody as an initiation and constant mob wars. On top of that, you get discriminated by everybody else, for example, you are not allowed to leave the city.
- Scra's and Neekia's childhood: their (foster-) parents got killed in a fight between murders because they wouldn't submit, they have to live on the streets, and their only way out is to join the murder that killed their parents.
- Del trying to murder Scra: falling into a deep canyon while being stripped to a stretcher and unable to move would cause nightmares for anyone.
- Del's Humiliation Conga and subsequent Sanity Slippage: he leaves the Roost, starts living in the nearby canyon while still wearing the clothes he wore when he lost his station, crafts a knife from stone, and tries to murder Scra - only to get killed in turn. Also, how basically nobody even notices or cares he's gone - his parents don't even know he's gone, and while his teachers know something's fishy, they are unable to find out what happened to Del.
- Whatever the doves do in their breeding dens to get such perfectly white-feathered, pale priests.
