- In "Morella", Morella and Lenora switch places. Morella is alive and Lenora is a corpse. Locke drops a candle which causes the house to burn down. Morella strangles Locke to death. We see Locke dead on the floor, Lenora is dead top of him while smiling , while Morella is grinning evilly in bed (meaning they switched back.
- In "The Case of M. Valdemar", Valdemar is stuck in a trance between the worlds of the living and the dead. He begs Carmichael to release him so he can die, but he cruelly refuses.
- When Carmichael attacks Helene for refusing to marry her, Valdemar's putrid body rises out of bed to kill Carmichael, while the former's face is melting.
