That certainly looks like it could use some ointment.

One thing the first Uzumaki Chronicles remains memorable for in comparison to other Naruto games is how incredibly and suddenly creepy it gets in the latter half of the game.

  • In the Japanese version Naruto gets hit by Itachi's Tsukuyomi. After a brief sight of the torture he put Kakashi through in their first encounter, Naruto then wakes up inside the Nine-Tailed Fox's Chamber. He's not alone however, as Itachi has followed him into his inner world, and he conjures an evil duplicate of Naruto to keep him company. The battle remains in the chamber, and as the battle proceeds, the Nine-Tailed Fox observes and follows wherever the two go.
  • Naruto and Neji's simple mission to act as a stuntman for a movie director gets hijacked as soon as Naruto arrives, as the movie director has mysteriously been absent ever since he went to Dragon's Pool. There the two find a new enemy type, the Sound Ninja, who have slumped stances and attack in killer cartwheels. That's not the scary part however, as after the pair find the director scared half-to-death, they also find a mysterious broken machine in a grassy field that according to Neji reeks of blood. What follows afterwards can only be described as a Jump Scare, as a Giant Praying Mantis suddenly attacks much to Naruto's understandable horror.
  • The last prisoner Escort Mission sees Naruto moreso protecting a criminal than bringing him to justice. He's one of Orochimaru's men, and if he's taken into custody he could spill Orochimaru's secrets. Therefore, Orochimaru has sent his men to eliminate him before the cat's out of the bag. Naruto actually gets a chance to talk to one of the Sound grunts, however the responses he gets are ominous mentions of "returning to the ground", that leave Naruto lost for words.
  • Deep within Blue Dragon Cave, Naruto finds an injured man next to a machine not unlike the one at Dragon's Pool. He explains that he and many other criminals were used as a guinea pig for a strange green mist. He says it turned him into "them", which Naruto pieces together to mean the strange Sound Ninja's that Naruto has been fighting. Suddenly the man croaks, and then stands up and starts speaking in unison with the Sound Ninja. After this wild reveal Naruto has no time to collect his thoughts as the two rigged the cave to collapse, with him sealed in with them.
  • The investigation of Wind Gate Village. The mission sees Naruto and Neji teaming up to check out a nearby village that contains one of the prisms that Naruto found broken in another village. Once the two arrive were treated to an eerie CG cutscene where a thick green fog has enveloped the village, with Naruto silently taking note of an absent house with the TV still on and tea poured out. Suddenly Neji's arm starts reeling in pain, as his bandages start melting away right before their eyes. Neji uses his Byakugan to scan the area seeing an invasive chakra enveloping his arm and surrounding the two of them.
    • It gets worse in the Japanese version where they find Gaara in the village, nearly about to collapse to the mist. Suddenly the mist clumps together and possesses Gaara with him being forcibly transformed into his partial Shukaku state. He attacks the two in a fit, and the two are now in for a rough fight.
