"Why did you cut the body up into small pieces and cleave the flesh from the limbs with a meat axe?"

In true Scorsese fashion, this film contains truly horrific material; especially so when you remember it's based on true events.

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked. You have been warned.

  • Even leaving aside the various brutal deaths in the film, one of the more subtly disturbing moments happens during the montage of Osage citizens dying and having their deaths uninvestigated. The last victim shown in the montage is a mother who's shot by an assailant and has her death framed as a suicide before her child is kidnapped right out of the stroller. We never do find out what happened to that baby in the film (although the book clarifies she was found unharmed).
  • Kelsie Morrison recounting how he murdered Anna in a calm, collected, and uncompromisingly detailed fashion. Not only is there no hint of shame, guilt, or remorse in his voice as he reminisces on that night, Kelsie doesn't even seem particularly satisfied or pleased with what he did. He feels absolutely nothing about taking the life of another person; she might as well have been an insect he squashed.
