1356 is a 2012 historical fiction novel by Bernard Cornwell and is the fourth in the The Grail Quest series of novels.
This novel provides examples of:
- Badass Preacher: Fra Ferdinand, despite being almost sixty years old and equipped with a sword without even a handle, is able to kill three English archers in the prime of their lives.
- Eye Scream: While occasionally occurring in the earlier novels, here at least four characters lose one or both eyes, including Genevieve and Scully.
- Hero Antagonist: Sir Roland is pitted against the protagonists for the first half of the book, clashes with them several times, and is possibly the only rival against Abbot Planchard from [[Literature/Heretic]] for the most wholesome character in the entire series.
