1969 Film
- Mattie making certain that Rooster honor's Moon's Last Request, that the money he had would go to his brother. Rather than allowing Rooster to keep it.
- Rooster carrying Mattie to safety after having to shoot Little Blackie. This, despite the fact that he's been shot in the shoulder and is tremendously out-of-shape as a result of his age.
- And the ending to the original film, with Mattie considering Rooster as part of her family.
- While reluctant, Rooster is clearly touched by the gesture.
2010 Film
- Mattie burying Rooster in her family's plot, giving him more respect in death than he was often given in life.
