Heartwarming / The Fall of Gondolin

Go To

  • When Rían hears rumors of the death of Húor, she becomes distraught and wanders into the wilderness, where she could have passed away. Fortunately, she was found by the Grey Elves of Lake Mithrim, who helped her until she delivered her son and promised to take care of baby Túor.
  • During his lonely wanderings around northwestern Beleriand, Túor discovers such a beautiful land which he would not mind staying there forever.
  • Tuor reaches the shores of West Beleriand, beholds the Great Sea for the first time, and falls in love with the ocean and its creatures. And it is said that Ulmo loved Tuor, too.
  • Ulmo the Lord of Waters appears before Tuor and talks about his designs and wishes. Sadly, Túor understands little, but the Vala is able to convey that he has not forgotten the Exiled Ones, and Túor will be instrumental to Morgoth's defeat.
  • In the original conception, Gondolin was a safe haven for whoever was fleeing from Morgoth.
  • Túor is warmly welcomed when he arrives in Gondolin. He takes up residence in the hidden city, gets married to the Princess, and they have a son. For the first time since he was sixteen, Túor has a family.
  • After spending several hundreds of years being the object of her own creepy cousin's disturbing and unwanted affection, Idril finds someone who truly loves her, respects her, and takes heed when she talks.
  • Not only are Túor and Idril hopelessly in love and an adorable couple, but there are none of the usual strife and engagement challenges that come with Human/Elf relationships. You get the impression that Turgon was already planning the wedding before they got halfway through asking about getting engaged.
  • When Túor finds Idril during the battle, he lifts her and kisses her, "for she was more to him than all the Gondothlim".
  • Although Gondolin falls, Túor manages to save his family and several hundreds of Gondolindrim, thanks to Idril's wisdom and farsightedness (and Túor being willing to listen to his wife).
