Heartwarming / Solomon's Perjury

Go To

  • Despite the grim nature of the series, there are quite a few heartwarming scenes throughout.
    • Ji-hoon's and Woo-hyuk's friendship is equal parts this and tearjerker. Ji-hoon, who has himself had a horribly abusive father, understands Woo-hyuk's pain better than anyone else. Not only that, but the fact that he made Woo-hyuk regret his wrongdoings really shows how much of a good friend he is. His words, that it's always possible to start anew, give Woo-hyuk hope that despite his misdeeds, he can live a clean and earnest life from now on, were also really sweet. And the fact that Ji-hoon already considers him a friend at this point. Aw.
    • Seo-yeon's parents being so supportive of their daughter, is really refreshing and heartwarming to watch, especially in a series where most of the parents are straight-out a-holes.. Add to that how her parents also give her useful advice about the "adult world", as they put it,is also really sweet.
    • Kyung-moon's love for Ji-hoon, his adopted son. It's clear that despite his morality, he loves his son, and would do anything for him, though it does take time for him to come through in the last couple of episodes.
      • The flashback in episode 9, where he meets a young and scared Ji-hoon for the first time, who had just witnessed his mother being murdered. And basically anytime he interacts with little Ji-hoon throughout the flashbacks. After he's sent to the orphanage, Kyung-moon takes him out for a day, buying him food, clothes, and toys, something Ji-hoon had never experienced before, which is extremely sad for a kid his age. This exchange, especially, as Kyung-moon tucks the little boy into bed at the end of the day, is both this and tearjerking:
Ji-hoon: Ajhussi, why are you not sleeping?
      Kyung-moon: Actually... I'm not sure either. I can't sleep.
Ji-hoon (with a cute little smile on his face): Thank you for today. I've never gone to bed feeling this good.
Kyung-moon: It's only a start! It'll be like this everyday.
      Ji-hoon: Probably not.
Kyung-moon: Ji-hoon. Do you want me to ask the orphanage if you can stay another day? You can do whatever you want, and I'll buy you whatever you want.
      Ji-hoon: ...A family. That's what I want. A family.
    • Ji-hoon and Joon-young's friendship in general. Ji-hoon never hesitates to share his space with him whenever Joon-young needs a place to stay, and Joon-young also feels comfortable around him.
      • In episode 10, Joon-young runs away from home after an emotionally charged conversation with his dad, and when Ji-hoon finds him waiting for him in front of his home, he just cheerfully welcomes him, jokingly saying that he should buy an extra toothbrush for Joon-young and keep it in the bathroom. He never asks him what happened, just offers to make some ramyeon. It's clear that it's because of Ji-hoon's considerate behavior and actions that he feels comfortable around him.
    • It's really heartwarming to see Joon-young offering Ji-hoon to be his defense counsel, not just because he feels sympathetic or obliged, but because he understands Ji-hoon at a much more human level, that deep down he also wanted to have someone by his side. Ji-hoon, touched by this gesture, smiles a true smile in a long while, thanking Joon-young for being a good friend.
      • During the trial, as a guilt-ridden Ji-hoon tearfully comes to the conclusion that he 'murdered So-woo due to gross negligence', and is in the depths of hell blaming himself, Joon-young, who's also in tears, stands up and points out that Ji-hoon has never committed any kind of murder, and that he was grieving as well, more than anyone else. Joon-young, who by this point is fully aware just how much Ji-hoon has been suffering beneath his smiling facade, takes no time in standing up for him, unable to see Ji-hoon torture himself any further.
    • Ji-hoon's soliloquy at the end is simultaneously this and massive tearjerker.
