Heartwarming / Platinum Pirate

Go To

  • Vivi gives in to Tears of Joy and hugs Vaporeon after the latter uses Rain Dance to bring an end to Yuba's years-long drought.
  • Smoker, despite knowing that Robin is an outlaw who has been evading capture for twenty years, refuses to turn her in despite having captured her at the end of Operation Prometheus, letting her leave Alabasta with the Straw Hats with no fight or complaint. Why? Because Gardevoir and Vivi's reactions to her Dark and Troubled Past convinced him she didn't deserve to have a bounty on her head in the first place, but the Government wouldn't allow her name to be cleared, and he without hesitating decided Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!
  • While it's also a Tear Jerker given the circumstances, every last Marine at G4, after Lucas refuses to give Saint Rhode Gardevoir, does their best, one way or another, to help him escape, Bothering by the Book wherever they can. Lucas and his team, while they're angry over what's happening, understand it too, and makes it clear they have no grudge against them.
  • Sabo's memories are restored thanks to Gardevoir - and one chapter later, he tracks down Ace, who breaks down in Tears of Joy when he realizes his beloved brother was Not Quite Dead and has returned.
  • Robin - after a long talk with the Straw Hats, Ace, Sabo, and Lucas and his team - breaks down in tears to realize that she's finally found people who won't betray her and understand - and sympathize - with her pain.
    • Ace, for his part, actually talks to Robin about his own past, and how he empathizes with her desire to find a home and people who will love her for herself.
“When I was a kid, people told me all the time that I should never have been born, that I was better off dead. My mother died giving birth to me, and… that man was the source of all the attacks. I was always angry, and I didn’t have any good reason to live until I met these two. Sabo and I planned on becoming pirates together when we grew up, so we could be free of a world where we had no place… and Luffy was the first person who ever told me that he wanted me to live. When I hit the New World, I challenged Whitebeard to bolster my own name. Over the 100 times I tried and failed to beat him, it sunk in that Whitebeard knew who I was. He saw me for me, and he accepted me for me. Even the parts I refused to admit to myself. He calls us all his sons. And that’s why he’s the only father I’ll ever acknowledge. Do I still ask myself all the time if I deserve it? Of course. But I let what my captain and nakama say take precedence over the old voices.”
  • Gardevoir makes Merry's Klabautermann show herself to the Straw Hats, and they plan to try and save her, in part by incorporating her keel into a new ship.
  • Rei eventually managed to find his way back to his own time, and married Johanna to become Lucas' father. And he comes back from his duties as ambassador to Kalos to seek out Giratina with Cynthia, Dawn, and Barry in order to bring his son home.
  • Sengoku giving himself some Plausible Deniability about the Straw Hats being subordinate to Lucas in order to let them go and rescue Robin.
  • When the former Baroque Works agents deliver Spandam to Smoker, Lassoo and Funkfreed are playing together in Mr. 4's arms.
  • Lucas's reunion with his last two team members, Luxray and Togekiss. The former bowls him over and starts licking him senseless, which quickly turns into a team Group Hug.
  • Luffy and Smoker agree to take the care packages delivered by Luxray and Togekiss away with them, so that they aren't damaged in the fight against Giratina.
  • Despite losing the fight, Lucas gives Giratina a few berries to help it heal, which it expresses gratitude for. In fact, this is implied to be part of why it gives him the hint of another chance once he grows stronger.
  • Luffy snapping Lucas out of his funk after his loss to Giratina.
  • Sengoku realizing during his meeting with Lucas that while the Champion may hate the World Government, he has no issue standing on the side of Justice. This gets him to smile for the first time since the meeting begins as he realizes that the world will potentially change for the better during the long term. The minder that Sengoku asks to keep an eye on Lucas notes that it's the first time he's been in a good mood in a while.
  • In the care package Lucas gets, there are several letters from his family and friends, and the narration notes that he's both smiling and crying most of the time he's reading them.
  • Lucas giving Luffy a way out of his "service" while still maintaining Plausible Deniability.
