Heartwarming / Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan

Go To

  • The first time Rikuo transformed into a Youkai was to save Kana and his friends, even after he was made fun of for saying his grandpa was a youkai, I think it's quite heartwarming.
  • In the 40th chapter Hyakki Yakou and Sakazuki, after Zen's insistance that he forms his own Hyakki we see how Rikuo's attendants feel about him. And the support they give to him is absolute.
  • When fighting against Tamazuki both Rikuo and Tsurara end up in a really bad shape, Rikuo urges Tsurara to get away, but she answers him:
"I'll protect to you for all eternity. Because you are the one I exchanged sakazuki with"
  • In Chapter 50, the otherwise very intimidating Jami turns out to be a very loyal and protective yokai. Ever since his death during a tsunami, he'd been guarding his beloved master's descendants for many generations, disregarding the fact that his master's wife was the reason for his death in the first place. And before being recruited by Rikuo, his current protectorate Shinako says the one thing he'd been waiting to hear in all that time: "Thank you."
  • Nurarihyon and Youhime - Sure, they don't exactly have the best of first meetings. His marriage proposal is out of the blue and pretty awful. But when it comes down to it in Chapter 64, he can be very, very eloquent about his feelings for her, especially when he's doing everything he can to save her from a malevolent, centuries old youkai.
I know for sure that just with you by my side everything would shine brightly and flourish. That's the future I can see...
  • Nurarihyon went after Youhime at Osaka Castle knowing that it was the home base of Japan's most powerful youkai and that it was near suicide to do so. His Hyakki Yakko still followed him, including Gyuuki, who tried to warn him off storming the castle, and Setsura, who had just been implicitly rejected by Nurarihyon.
  • During the Hundred Tales Arc, Kiyotsugu drops everything to go out into a world turning to Hell, all to clear Rikuo's name. For all his faults, the guy is absolutely loyal to his friends.
  • Years after Rihan's death, his Hyakki Yako are not only deathly protective of his son Rikuo but of Wakana, Rikuo's mother. Not just because of her status as lady of the house but because of how happy Wakana made Rihan during their marriage.
  • For a trickster demon with somewhat skewed moral priorities, Nurarihyon is not a bad grandfather, including to kids who aren't related to him. He genuinely wishes Yura well in her life, knowing that she's an onmyouji. In a Valentine's Day omake, Yura ends up spending the day with him at a park, eating snacks.
  • During Rihan's time, Kurotabou finally remembering that he's a heroic Yokai created by a tale spread among scared and poor children wishing for a hero to save them from the bad guys. Once he remembers, he rebels against his former master and joins Rihan.
