  • The Wallfish is... a very unusual ship, as Kira learns. For one thing, they have a cat and a pig, for some reason. For another thing, Kira eventually decides to look up what a "Wallfish" is and realizes that Captain Falconi named his ship after a snail.
    • Later on, the ship needs to change its identity, so Falconi switches the transponder to identify the ship as the Fingerpig. Based on the explanations Kira is given, a "Fingerpig" is either a sausage or something much ruder.
  • The Wallfish isn't welcome on the planet Ruslan due to some vague legal problems the crew faces if they should ever return. Kira eventually finds out they smuggled a cargo of newts from Earth and accidentally caused an ecological disaster on the planet.
  • Jellies board the Wallfish during a space battle, and take cover in a cargo bay to avoid being ambushed in the central axis. The battle suddenly grinds to a halt when a tentacle waves out into the corridor waving a pig in a cryo tube, driving Falconi into a rage.
  • Whenever Gregorivich isn't at least a little bit scary due to his off-kilter behavior (and being in control of the entire ship), he tends to be hilarious, addressing the crew as "meatbags" or "infestation", and at one point complaining about being called "Greg."
  • On Bughunt, the Wallfish crew and a contingent of UMC Marines encounter a Jelly armored vehicle, which is suddenly disabled when the Entropists do something with their hands and unleash an energy net that disables it. When asked what that was, they simply explain it as "magic!"
  • C'tein is not only insanely huge, but it uses a capital ship-grade railgun as a sidearm. It's just so cartoonishly over the top. The fact that this is actually justified when fighting Kira and the Soft Blade does not make this less hilarious.
  • One of the appendices is an in-universe explanation of how Markov Drives enable Faster-Than-Light Travel. One section explains how the existing mathematical understanding of the speed of light suggests that any FTL drive would double as a time machine. Having said that, FTL drives do not function as time machines, and we know this because they don't function as time machines.
