In spite of being utterly terrifying, there are a few moments of Black Comedy.
- After beating Sally unconscious, tying her up and putting her in the front of his pickup truck, the gas-station manager was about to drive off to the Old, Dark House before quickly running back to the gas station to turn the store's lights off. He cheerfully, almost casually, tells the half-conscious Sally who the family is about to have over for dinner:"Forgot to turn the darned lights off; the cost of electricity these days, will drive a man out of business. Hahaha."
- The whole bit with Grandpa repeatedly failing to hit Sally with the hammer and kill her after Drayton talked him up, while Drayton, the Hitchhiker, and Leatherface cheer him on, seemingly oblivious to him being a senile old man.
- Drayton berating Leatherface for destroying the door and murdering the hippies. After Leatherface clarifies that they had all intruded on their property and scared him, Drayton seems to calm down. And then...Drayton: YOU BROKE THE DAMN DOOR! (Starts beating Leatherface up with a stick)
