The film like it's short animated counterpart knows how to balance tragedy with comedy.
- Xiao Hei's multiple attempts to ambush or fight Wuxian. It goes as well as you would expect.
- Wuxian having to restrain Xiao Hei from attacking humans comes off as a parent dealing with an unruly child.
- In one scene where Wuxian is driving down the road on a vespa with Xiao Hei sitting in the basket in front with the helmet, a guy drives by to hit on Wuxian calling him "pretty girl". However, when Wuxian looks over the guy immediately looks disappointed and drives away.
- In the city one of the signs literally reads in English, "If you don't know English, you can't read this."
- Wuxian knocking out the rock demon so fast it's hardly seemed like a fair fight. The humans sitting react by holding up their phones and taking a picture.
- As Wuxian calmly jumps out of the train to talk to the other demon, he gives a No-Sell reaction to a rock being thrown at the back of his head.
