The One Rule

  • After sleeping the night at Wayne Manor, Selina is about to help Bruce look into his finances to figure out Daggett's role in Bane's operation, only for there to be a knock at the door. Selina goes to answer it and is stunned to find that the visitor is Blake, while Blake himself is confused to find Selina around. She quickly calls for Bruce, who has an awkward time defusing the situation and talking Blake out of arresting Selina:
Bruce Wayne: Blake, what are you doing? [Bruce spotted the detective's shield clipped to his belt. That was a fast promotion]
John Blake: She kidnapped Congressman Gilly.
    Selina Kyle: I did not.
John Blake: He picked you out of a photo line-up. [Selina scowled and ticked off her list on her fingers]
Selina Kyle: He consented to leaving the party with me, he consented to staying at my place, and he consented to taking the pill that made him a little loopy. Kidnapping is taking by force and none of that is kidnapping.
John Blake: [gave up on his handcuffs] So he consented to the bullet hole in his leg?
Selina Kyle: Daggett's thugs shot him; take it up with them.
Bruce Wayne: Did you know she was here?
John Blake: No. What is she doing here?
[The paperwork must be the tunnel information Blake had alluded to yesterday when he dropped Bruce off in Old Town]
Bruce Wayne: She's helping me get my money back, so you can't arrest her. This way.
    • Blake is left very awkward when Bruce asks him to get Selina a drink so she can calm her nerves before explaining how Bane threatened her.
  • Bruce, Selina and Blake pay Fox a visit so they can check for confirmation that Bane is tunneling into Applied Sciences. Fox is initially taken aback at Bruce bringing allies along, and snarks, "I didn't realize 'we' included more than two."
    • As she walks around the Applied Sciences floor, testing for weak points, she gets annoyed at Blake shadowing her.
John Blake: What are you doing? [She stepped twice to the right]
Selina Kyle: Earning my paycheck. [She repeated the tapping and then stepped forward] The better question is what such a straight arrow cop is doing here?
John Blake: Keeping an eye on you. [That earned him another eye roll. The tapping caused her to veer from the camo-painted Batmobile] You really expect me to believe someone with your record isn't out to steal him blind?
Selina Kyle: I'd put my twenty-five percent finder's fee in that category too, but he agreed to it. [Her deep red lips smirked] It's killing you that you can't take me in.
John Blake: I can afford to wait, with your record—
Selina Kyle: A girl's gotta eat.
John Blake: And you have quite the appetite. [She spun on her heel and seized his tie before he could pull his hands out of his pockets. Her fingers ran over the St. Swithin medal tie pin]
Selina Kyle: You're a St. Swithin's boy, one of the lucky ones. That explains the black and white view of the world.
John Blake: What's that supposed to mean? [He pulled his tie from her hand]
Selina Kyle: It's a grey world out there, Boy Wonder, and you need to learn the difference between bad and evil. [She turned back to her tapping the floor]
John Blake: Is that a line you gave him to trust you? [He jerked his head back at Wayne]
Selina Kyle: I haven't given him or you any lines. I have rules and I follow them. So don't confuse me with whatever smash 'n grab crews you've dealt with before. I'm on a whole 'nother level. [She turned from him, tapped her foot on the floor, knelt, and dropped her purse next to her knee.]
[Blake grimaced at himself. Wayne trusted her or had bought her loyalty, and Bane was the worse threat. She'd be more likely to slip up and admit to a charge if he wasn't hostile. He swallowed and dropped his cynicism for curiosity]
John Blake: You really pay taxes?
Selina Kyle: The system is held together with duct tape, but it's all we've got and I believe in doing my part.
