  • During the family's wake-up ritual at the start of the film. Frances accuses her big brother of being "passive aggressive", which he denies adamantly. Frances's mom then mentions "family time".
Mrs. McCausland: We're not talking about aggression, that's what "family time" is for.
  • When we first meet Larry, one of the first things he does is park himself right on top of the school entrance.
    • The next time we see him he's made friends with a dog. Having given it a pair of sunglasses, to wear.
      • May also be heartwarming since he may have been keeping the dog company because it (like all the dogs in the neighborhood) was currently stranded on a roof.
  • The Boogeyman turning the swimming pool's water into Jell-O.
  • Larry doing a back-stand when he formerly introduces himself to Frances, why? For fun!
  • Larry donning a Holmes style cap and pipe while telling Frances that something strange is happening in Middleberg.
    • And the pipe? It blows bubbles.
Larry: Au contraire, there's something very peculiar going down in this berg, Watson. And it looks to me like (looks from side to side for seemingly no reason) you're in the middle of it.
  • When Larry tells Frances she's being framed. He literally pulls out, you guessed it... a frame.
  • While being questioned by the principal, Frances spots Larry and goes after him. The next time we see him Larry's in full hockey gear and skating down the hall. When Frances finally catches him, she finds Larry playing drums, while still in uniform.
  • The obvious Shout-Out to Frankenstein when Larry tries to get his 'Temptrafuge' to work. The fact that the scene is in black-and-white with lighting all over the place helps.
Larry: Stand back, it's still experimental.
Frances: I would have said, 'ridiculous'.
  • After nearly being killed by a Boogeyman, Darwin has this to say.
    Frances: Darwin, are you okay?
Darwin: (matter-o-factly) I got sock fuzz, in my mouth.
