Fridge Brilliance

  • Teleya's opinion about who is the real hero of Raiders of the Lost Ark might seem like a throwaway joke on face value, until one remembers that she doesn't say that the Nazis are the heroes, she says that Belloq is the hero. And Belloq's motivation in that movie was to use the Ark of the Covenant as a means to talk to God, which is something the deeply religious Krill can entirely relate to.
  • Teleya's belief that Belloq is the hero of Raiders of the Lost Ark is indicative of the cultural blinders she has on. In that film, it is Belloq's arrogance and single-minded/shortsighted pursuit of the power of the Ark of the Covenant that resulted in himself and the Nazis horrifically dying, similar to how the crew of the Krill destroyer Ed and Gordon took down in "Krill" met their ultimate fate due to what's shown to be a one-sided interpretation of the Ankhana, the Krill holy text.
  • Ed's gambit with the codes that open a honey pot database of false data is an actual, effective tactic of cybersecurity. It's also not likely a Union-standard procedure, but one he put in place for himself. Why? Think about the long-running argument with him and Kelly. It had to have crossed his mind that if a mission went haywire and Kelly got captured, he would have to use that tactic. And while the enemy is trying to figure out if the information is valid, that buys him time to mount a rescue mission. Telling Teleya about it may also be a smart idea; now the Krill are going to have to second-guess any information they may get from a captured Union officer, and waste time trying to figure out if they got real codes or a database of good-looking garbage.
    • Yes, it is a good tactic, which is why it’s much more likely to be Union protocol. There’s no way Ed could set up something like that on his own, and the idea of him doing something so elaborate in the off-chance he might need to ransom his ex-wife is a tremendous stretch.

Fridge Horror

  • This episode is the second time Teleya is among the only survivors of a Krill ship that was destroyed while Ed Mercer was onboard. Given the Krill's general distrust and xenophobic nature, one has to wonder what conclusions her superiors will jump to. Though the third season would show that whatever conclusions they came to ultimately didn't matter, since she would go into politics and become Supreme Chancellor.
