Fridge Brilliance

• The Changeling having the ability to turn the player into a Morph Ball form makes a lot more sense when you read its monster bio and note that the original proto-changeling from which all others spawned originally came from outer space, and that it picks up the abilities of organisms it has absorbed or witnessed. Obviously at some point during its travels through space it came into contact with Samus Aran.
• The Spectral Familiars are two pairs of opposites. The Wolf uses Wind and Water attacks, is weak to Earth, and resists Wind; the Lion uses Earth and Fire attacks, is weak to Wind, and resists Earth. The Toad uses Water and Earth attacks, is weak to Fire, and resists Water; the Spectral Eagle uses Wind and Fire attacks, is weak to Water, and resists Fire. In Eternity's End, each Familiar is perpendicular to the other two they share an attack element with, and diagonal to their opposite.
• The Shockhopper's backstory seems strange at first — after all, rockhopper penguins are still alive — but it brings to mind the original penguin, the great auk, which was hunted to extinction by humans in the 19th century.
• The row of feathers on Rathops' back may be an exaggeration of how many ceratopsians had quills.
