Early in the film, Hubie's deceased father is established from a throwaway line of him chasing Hubie around the yard with a tennis racket as someone who may or may not have physically abused his son. This may not seem like much of an important plot point at first, but given how much Hubie's mother loves him, and by what she was planning to do to his other tormentors, is it a stretch to assume that she murdered his father as well for what he did to her son?
