    Fridge Horror
  • Jane's overprotectiveness/strictness of her children (especially Tori and Charlie) very likely stems from Charlie's past bullying. Her son is bullied into self-harming/suicidal behavior (the unrevised version of Solitaire outright mentions that he has attempted suicide) and is now dating someone whose friend circle is the same type of people who bullied him. Of course, Nick is not that type of guy and is more than willing to cut off anyone who is that type, but Jane has no way of knowing that for certain.
    • Part of it could also stem from her own upbringing with emotionally abusive parents.
  • It’s outright stated in the unrevised version and heavily implied in the revised version of Solitaire that at some point, Charlie attempted suicide. Imagine the devastation that would be left in the wake if he had succeeded, especially from his parents (who would likely blame themselves), Tori (who breaks down when describing Charlie's self harm), and Oliver (who would be too young to fully understand where his big brother went).
