Fridge Brilliance

• In the opening scene, when the stepsisters ask Cinderella which one of them she thinks looks better in the hat they both fancy, it might seem like an unusual character choice that paints the sisters as having a more equal relationship with Cinderella than in other adaptations of the tale. But it actually harks back to the original story by Charles Perrault, where, despite the stepsisters' shabby treatment of Cinderella, they're said to consult her in all matters of fashion because she has excellent taste and always gives them good advice.
