Sky Blossom
(Небесный цвет) is a Russian Twelve Monthsnote fanfic by ОсьИНЬ, a Slavic fantasy retelling of the story.
Tropes featured in the fanfic:
- Accidental Truth: Godlava tells Dana she is to visit a potential bridegroom, so that Dana gets dressed and agrees to get into the cart prepared for her without a fight, while in fact the villagers intend to have the girl sacrificed. However, in the end, Dana does meet her future bridegroom at her destination.
- Adapted Out: The Queen's entire storyline is cut.
- Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Dana becomes one of the spirits.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: The villagers wish for the spring to come quickly. It means that they get all the January frosts and February blizzards in the space of several days.
- Darker and Edgier: Instead of being sent to the forest in midwinter by her stepmother and stepsister, Dana is sacrificed to the winter spirits with the entire village's approval.
- Dead All Along: In the end, Dana finds out she froze to death soon after the villagers left her in the forest.
- Didn't Think This Through: Godlava gets rid of her hated Step Servant… and quickly realizes that there is nobody left to manage the household, since both she and her own daughter aren't used to work. Very soon, they are impoverished.
- Flowers of Romance: April grows a meadow of cornflowers for Dana after she confesses they are her favorite flowers.
- Making a Splash: Dana is granted mastery of the forest's rivers and brooks.
- Named by the Adaptation: The Girl who was nameless in the movie (and the original play) is called Dana, and her stepmother and stepsister are Godlava and Radishka.
- Wicked Stepmother: Godlava is an angry, embittered woman who forces her stepdaughter to work like a slave even when the latter has a fever.
