The Beginning
Countless myths through human history from the stone age into modern times in cultures across the globe are marked by tales of monsters, horrific beasts of legendary status and fantastical size that lurked at the edges of human civilization.
The normal line of thought would be that these were the end result of archaic memes birthed from the fears of that which man did not know, and in stories told of such imaginary beings, gave form to their nightmares.
But perhaps in some instances at least, these monsters were birthed from kernels of truth, the fossilized remains of dinosaurs and other huge prehistoric creatures, and freaks of nature birthed from genetic mutations possibly inspiring such legends.
And perhaps something… more.

Folly of Manis a series of illustrations by TrollMans.

Set in a universe where kaiju have recently begun to awaken and wreak havoc in the 20th Century, Folly of Man's overall story progresses through illustrations of the various kaiju, along with their abilities, biographies, and their battles, alongside how mankind unearths a past where titans once roamed the Earth, and awaken to a time where they are covered up for the good of the public. Folly of Man takes inspiration from various parts of the Godzilla franchise, most predominantly the Showa, Heisei, and MonsterVerse continuities.

Folly of Man contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Species Change: Rather than being a true reptile in most media, Godzilla is a Precambrian organism of unknown taxonomic classification, with only superficial similarities to animals such as dinosaurs and fish.
    • This trope is also present for the various mutated Rodan, who happen to be mutated passerine birds that experienced spontaneous atavistic mutation during incubation, alongside the chimerical Kumonga.

  • Botanical Abomination:

  • Bizarre Alien Biology:
