    The Long March

Official Name: The Long March
Party: ERROR ERROR ERROR
Ideology: Sentient Artificial Intelligencenote

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: An interesting, Zig-Zagged example of this - The Long March is an AI meant to automate the PRC's politices and (probably) doesn't bear any malice against its human creators. That does not mean it isn't dangerous however, and a hardware fault can potentially lead to it detonating China's nuclear arsenal and collapsing the country - entirely on a accident.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It is unclear if the nuclear bombings were actually due to the claimed hardware fault or a result of actual malice.
  • Master Computer: An attempt at this, trying to create a centralized, automated computer system to run the PRC. Unfortunately, a hardware fault can cause things to go very wrong, with the Long March detonating much of China's nuclear arsenal, leading to a number of areas declaring independence, and the remainder of China descending into anarchy as the remnants of the Chinese Government attempt to restore order.
  • Meaningful Name: It is named for the military retreat undertaken by the Chinese Red Army, the precursor of the PLA, during the 1930s that saved them from being conpletely destroyed by the Nationalists and helped solidify Mao's authority. Unfortunately for those who named it, they seem to have forgotten that, while the Long March was successful, a mixture of food shortages, lack of cold weather clothing, traversing dangerous mountain passes, and clashes with local warlords in the areas they passed through meant that, by the end, only one-tenth of the army was still alive. If this Long March goes haywire, it can prove to be just as, if not more, lethal as its namesake.
