• In "Endgame" Cromie, the naval officer in charge of the British Embassy in Petrograd, informs Reilly and Hill that he will not be leaving with them, but will defend the embassy against the Cheka officers who are about to storm it. He brushes his hair and puts on his dress uniform, has a quick Stiff Upper Lip exchange with his butler (instructing him to burn the last of the Embassy's ciphers so they will not fall into enemy hands), then stands on the grand staircase of the embassy, blazing away with two Colt 1911s until he is finally cut down by a heavy machine gun.
