  • Gaspode at the end. He was at odds with Laddie the whole book, always trying to prove that he was better than the former, and as they were dying he calls Laddie a good boy. And threatens to take Death's leg and bury it in a hole when he thinks the Reaper has come for him,
  • The climax, when Victor harnesses the power of movie magic to defeat the Things, summoning both a Cool Horse and Cool Sword and riding off to save the day.
    • Victor's final fight with The Thing would have fit perfectly into the climax of an epic movie. (Which may have been intentional, given the theme of the book.) To lit; a man formally dedicated to a life of mediocrity engages a colossal Eldritch Abomination in a fight to the death atop the oldest and tallest building in the city. It may have been the result of “Holy Wood Magic”, but it was a damn impressive scene all the same.
    • Made even more awesome by Death turning up to deliver the final blow. Yes, Death doesn't kill anything, and only brings death when a creature's life has been ended by some other force, but it's still awesome to see that even an Eldritch Abomination is not immune to the swing of Death's scythe.
      • There's also the comment he makes: You belong dead. Not only a cool Shout-Out, but Death always does his job compassionately with people and animals, repeatedly shows that he cares a great deal about them, and when questioned about the justice of his job says There's no justice, There's just me. As such, it's a major O.O.C. Is Serious Business sign that he detests the life-consuming Things so much that he thinks they deserve to die.
      • That moment also confirms that Victor has indeed won properly; he hasn't merely banished the Thing, or destroyed a physical form that it can regrow over time, he's actually killed it properly.
  • A small one for the Bursar, for getting fed up enough to call Ridcully a "bloodthirsty, overbearing tub of lard" to his face (and getting away with it because he's got tenure). Considering all the stress that the Archchancellor will be putting the poor fellow through, in the books to follow, it's nice to know that he did snark back to the man at least once in his life.
  • The twin Moments when Detritus rips the hammer from its rusted supports and strikes the gong, and immediately following when the Sentinel stands up.
    • Really, the whole fight against the Things, from Gaspode snapping Victor out of his trance right up through Detritus saving the day, is a showcase of guts and glory from a large section of the cast. Even the moments that failed, like the Librarian's attack on the Ginger-Thing, and the bit pieces like Ridcully and the Bursar zooming in on broomstick, were clearly acts of incredible courage.
