• The Magic of the Silver Screen.
• The description of Victor's first entry into the ancient movie theatre under Holy Wood perfectly shows Pterry's skill at taking mundane things and twisting them slightly so you visualise it in a different way, and this particular way is bloody terrifying in a manner that many gothic writers fail to capture.
• Right in the middle of several characters talking, there's an abrupt cut to the ancient sunken Holy Wood, with lobsters that may not really be lobsters walking its deep, drowned streets. It's a brief intrusion to remind you that none of these people in their relatively mundane reality have figured out quite how horribly wrong and unnatural the place is.
