Awesome / Mara, Daughter of the Nile

Go To

  • Mara plays both sides with great skill and is only found out because 1) she was foolish enough to wear a ring she was supposed to have sold and 2) unbeknownst to her,one of her revolution compatriots was also a spy.
  • The scene where Mara refuses to betray the revolution under torture, even when promised freedom and riches, everything she's ever dreamed of.
  • Upon learning that his love did not in fact betray him and is even now resisting torture, Sheftu gets the revolution started with only a few hours notice and presents the new king to the people by dawn.
  • After letting the key people know that they're revolting tonight, Sheftu heads over to the palace in full noble regalia and crashes Mara's interrogation with his usual disinterestedly calm air, which facade he maintains through 1) seeing his love bleeding and injured, 2) realizing a trusted agent was the real traitor and could identify him at any moment, and 3) being identified by said traitor and then having the wits to throw suspicion on his opposite number. He only loses his cool when it's clear that Hatshepsut is going to have Mara beaten to death if he doesn't talk.
