When Lady Bird, Kyle, and Kyle's "cool" friends are headed for prom, a Dave Matthews Band song comes on the radio, and the majority of the kids start making fun of it. Lady Bird, who's gone along with their trendy ways to fit in, finally breaks, unapologetically declares that she likes the song, and demands that they drop her off at Julie's house.
Julie gets one for deciding to forgive Lady Bird even after she's been ditched for the cool kids. They have a great time catching up, then head to prom together and dance the night away. Having that much compassion, especially as a teenager, is something special.
