• The President holds his own against Jenny’s attempt to be the smug, dominant power in their conversation. When the President of the United States is played by Morgan Freeman and is using his stern parent voice, you listen. While Jenny truly doesn’t understand what she’s discovered, the calm verbal lashing she gets certainly erodes her smug demeanor.
• The Messiah's rockets winking out, one by one, as it enters the larger fragment of the Wolf comet... followed by the comet bursting into relatively harmless fragments when the ship self-destructs.
• It may be dark but for 1998, the sequence of the tsunami smashing into New York City was a very impressive special effects sequence.
