Back to the original thing

Now, chapter 15 of Fallout Equestria.

Littlepip has a fever. And she has a nightmare that relates to what we saw last chapter, where she was upset because she encountered an atrocity to which murder was not a valid response.

Anyway, yeah. Now she's all sick from the stress and stuff. And angst about Velvet Remedy. Maybe if this protagonist were remotely likable I'd feel bad. Anyway, blah blah blah "I'm not jealous I'm not jealous" (which will be repeated at various points throughout the chapter) and oh look, masturbating. Then she vomits and Velvet cleans up. Littlepip marvels at how Velvet is taking care of her. So, for that matter, am I, but hey, she's the protagonist and the supporting party members all kiss her ass.

She overhears Calamity and SteelHooves talk and the latter is expressing doubts about the protagonist, suspecting she's a black-ops agent blah blah blah. Despite this suspicion, SteelHooves apparently has no trouble letting her see his memory orb.

Then there's a thing on the radio where DJ Pon-3 is berating some guy for oh look it's that quest from Fallout 3 that has no right answer. Lovely, now we know that the protagonist won't have to do it. And then Littlepip goes into a nauseatingly self-righteous speech about ghouls to SteelHooves.

Oh, and Calamity shows up and reassures Littlepip that he's seen her heart and she's a wonderful pony. Great, more ass-kissing.

Then he joins the party and blah blah blah off on the road again, yammering yammering hello Watcher asking about the Ministry of Awesome says they didn't do anything except this thing called the Single Pony Project. Then there's a setup for a joke about Flutterguy. This chapter also uses the "Okie Dokie Lokie" thing. Ugh... more memes.

Anyway, they come up upon Four Star Hotel, look tons of Steel Ranger corpses. This place was mentioned earlier, but I forget why it was important. There's so much filler and meandering around in this thing that it's hard to keep track. Anyway, lots of lock picking and avoiding security systems and reading files that show these ponies did not want the Ministry of Morale or any government forces getting in (oh, boy, more derailing Pinkie pie).

Then Littlepip gets a nice piece of armor for Velvet (there was a conversation earlier about her needing armor) and she tries it and and it's oh so nice and stuff and then SteelHooves is a total buzzkill and goes "that's zebra armor and I am a racist."

I don't know if I prefer it when a chapter inspires annoyance or apathy from me. This chapter was mostly apathy.

Zebra armor? Racism? That isn't racism, that's SH being against a party-member wearing the barding of an enemy from a war that never really ended, that he "lived" through, that according to some parts of the fandom is still a belligerent fighting force. No, not really seeing the racism in that. He's racist in other parts but this one seems more pragmatic/justified in some ways.

Well, being against a party member wearing protection because of a centuries-old grudge isn't really something I'd call "pragmatic."

I think he's going for something more along the lines of "wearing enemy armor is a bad idea because your allies might shoot you by accident."

That's a risk that's likely to run? Huh. Well, I'll have to read on.

This chapter did get a bit awkward at points. But personally I like Littlepip. Not as much as her allies, but I still like her.

They didn't want Pinkie Pie investigating because they were traitors to Equestria, so Pinkie was in the right here.

And yeah, there are still some zebras around and Steel Hooves has understandable reasons for disliking them beyond what you've seen so far.

1. it wasn't ass kissing, calamity just really feels that way, he's not trying to suck up.

2. the "flutterguy" quip wasn't in there just as a random meme, but for a hint at who Watcher is, since not many would even KNOW what Flutterguy sounded like or was.

Sincerity doesn't make it less annoying to see another character praising her.

Still a difference between that and asskissing though, you know I'm all about the semantics :)
