Chapter 12: You've Seen All This Before

The heroes find themselves on Earth, which has been ravaged by the Void much the same way it was by Trigon in "The End," and realize that the Void has consumed all galaxies besides The Milky Way (this most likely includes Psyconia, even though the author said it was safe). They realize that if the Void's still sucking things in, the wielder of the Dark Prognosticus must still be alive.

Count Logan soon appears before them, angrily rebuffing being referred to by his old name, but then rips off the Bug's line from Men In Black that it doesn't matter anymore, since his enemies soon won't be matter. The narration helpfully points out that Count Logan can no longer be reasoned with.

At that point, Dr. Beljar takes Count Logan by surprise, immobilizing him, stealing the Dark Prognosticus and re-enacting Dimentio's canon betrayal of Count Bleck. He then shares his evil plan with the heroes, re-stating that he knew about Count Logan's deception, and revealing that as a robot(technically, he should be a Cyborg, but it could be that Mykan forgot what he was), he doesn't have a heart, either, and can use the Dark Prognosticus. He was unable to defeat Count Logan, though, so he had the heroes do it for him, stealing the Dark Prognosticus while they were distracted.

Dr. Beljar then plans on destroying what's left of the universe and remaking it in his image. Engaging in some Evil Gloating, he dismissively looks down on Count Logan, before turning him into a dragon that looks exactly like Malchior. With so many animated dragons to choose from, one would think Mykan would choose a slightly less obvious example, one outside of Teen Titans.

Terra is horrified, and tries to get through to Beast Boy, only to learn that he can no longer hear her. Dr. Beljar then leaves with his dragon to destroy the rest of the universe, knowing that he doesn't need to fight the heroes when he can let The Void destroy them. The heroes are unable to follow him without Copy Cat's spaceship, and they can only watch as the dragon destroys the galaxy.

Once again, it's the Light Prognosticus' time to shine as a Deus ex Machina, fueled by the Titans taking responsibility for everything Beast Boy endured and recognizing his heroism. As I've said on my other liveblogs, this is a prime example of character bashing in which the characters can only grow and break out of the vicious cycle of humiliation by learning the lessons the author wants them to, which often involve giving up their canon goals or apologizing for things that may not be wrong in the first place. Copy Cat follows suit, and they take the fight to Dr. Beljar just before Earth is destroyed. The one bright spot is that, thanks to Dr. Beljar's usurping control of the Dark Prognosticus, they no longer need to kill Beast Boy, even if killing Dr. Beljar is no easy task.

Next Installment: As they struggle to kill Dr. Beljar, the heroes receive help from unlikely sources.
