* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: It's hard to say exactly just what the Man's motivation even is. One would think that he is motivated by Rachel learning to apologize and make it sincere, however, on the other hand, it's implied that the Man is simply [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist looking for an excuse to kill people]] and that nothing Rachel says would've changed a thing, even if she sincerely apologized, or if she had even honked her horn or not in the first place.

** The Man comes off as this to some. Prior to this, he might have been just an average guy. Then, [[spoiler: his wife divorces him and he loses most of his possessions as a result. He also loses his job and has his pension benefits canceled]]. Given that the film implies this takes place during or around the UsefulNotes/Covid19Pandemic and the resulting lockdown when financial strains, anxiety and seeing many others refuse to observe protocol were very common, suffering events of this kind could test anyone's sanity limits. Althought he loses much sympathy when he remorselessly kills innocent bystanders.

* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''Film/FallingDown''. Both revolve around a working-class, middle-aged man who has been left by his wife and fired from his job and is now taking his wrath out on anyone who provokes him and are set over the course of a single day. The difference being that Bill Foster, bad as he was, mostly stuck to petty yet extreme displays of aggression and only directly killed one person in self-defense while The Man has already killed two at the start and does so with many others without a second thought, just to go after Rachel. While Bill was portrayed sympathetically, as an extremely troubled man who was as much a victim of his own serious anger issues as everyone else was and who just wanted to go back to a time when things were happy, The Man is portrayed as an absolute monster with no redeeming traits of any kind.

* BrokenAesop: The film’s moral appears to be that you should be careful and considerate towards other drivers who might be having a bad day, however because the beginning establishes that the man is a murderous psycho rather than introduce him at the traffic lights without a backstory, it breaks that moral and puts everything he says about teaching Rachel a lesson into question because he might have simply been looking for if not deliberately trying to provoke someone to target ForTheEvulz, making the moral that you should never honk at or confront other drivers no matter what they do because they might be [[{{SpaceWhaleAesop}} a dangerous psychopath who will make you their next target]].

* EsotericHappyEnding: Although the films seems to end on a happy note with Rachel finally killing the Man and getting word that her brother is alive, it ignores the fact the man sent all her money to her ex -- meaning she is now completely broke and still without a job, both her friend/divorce lawyer and her brother’s fiancée are dead and she will likely be scarred by this incident for the rest of her life.[[note]]Since it can be proven that the man had her phone and was the one who sent the money, that's fraud and she'll likely get all her money back.
If her ex-husband tries to dispute it, he may well end up getting some very bad publicity.[[/note]]

This is most certainly not the trope. This is closer to Values Resonance, and it's not even that, because of how much this steers away from the actual movie.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: White guy loses his mind over one bad day and goes on a killing spree, qhite guy reacts to a slight with entitled DisproportionateRetribution, sivorce triggers murder-y feelings, all warning signs are given a pass because of white male privilege and toxic masculinity, targeting women for harassment and murder, murder spree victims tend to be other white males, angry white males and mass shootings are disturbingly related in the US, and painted as rare, mentally ill lone wolves instead of super-common crime stastitics, including the reason why cops are mostly likely to be killed in a domestic abuse incident, why women are most likely to be murdered while pregnant by the guy who impregnated them, and why the most likely person to murder a woman is her husband. Never mind the slap on the wrist sentences for rape, which white men disproportionately get a pass on. Culturally, rage like this is also given a pass, especially if the victim "deserved" it in some way. The Man embodies A LOT of RealLife White Guy Syndrome, and it's part of what makes him so scary. Even the movie says "He could happen to anyone."

Per TRS, Aluminum Christmas Trees is YMMV. This might need to be reworded a bit because I had to remove "check" Word Cruft before moving it here.

Idiot Plot is now Flame Bait

* IdiotPlot: The entire movie's plot is basically driven by complete and utter carelessness as Rachel makes irrational decision after irrational decision that pretty much makes it easier for Tom Cooper to kill people.

Removed What An Idiot trope as no longer allowed.

* WhatAnIdiot:
** So Rachel acts rudely to the man, which is what set him off in the first place. Stupid, yes, and pretty rude as well, but some may give her the benefit of the doubt because she was under a lot of stress at the moment. However, the real trouble starts when she leaves her phone in the car when she goes inside the gas station to pay. Had she taken her phone in with her, The Man wouldn't have stolen it from her and made it easy for him to harm her loved ones, maybe she would have been able to call the police as soon as she saw his truck following her.
** The NiceGuy who escorts Rachel out the gas station. Kudos to him for standing up to the Man and being smart enough to get his license plate number as well as for escorting Rachel to her vehicle. But after Rachel leaves, he tells the Man that he knows his plate number and then ''stands in front of his truck'', thinking the Man won't run him over. [[spoiler:Unsurprisingly, he does.]] Despite saving Rachel, the one dumb decision he made [[spoiler:almost got him killed.]]
** Fred discovers that a grey pickup truck is parked outside of Rachel's house, the door's been broken into, and his fiancee, Mary, isn't responding to his calls anymore. Rather than immediately calling the police and retreating to a safe place (like outside of the house) as is recommended you do in the case of a break in, Fred instead grabs a kitchen knife and confronts The Man, who just got done beating Mary. [[spoiler:This results in Mary's death.]]

** Was the Man simply a NiceGuy and an average joe who had had been wronged and screwed over by others to the point that he finally reached his RageBreakingPoint or was he a bully and a {{Jerkass}} who brought his own troubles on himself and [[NeverMyFault refused to accept blame]], instead deciding to take out his rage out on innocent strangers?
