* GrowingTheBeard: Not many people were really that impressed with this series early on since it came off like it was going to turn out to be yet another addition to the long and cliche HaremGenre list. However, it eventually developed its own voice due to establishing Rokuro and Benio as the OfficialCouple right away, and the HopelessSuitor, Mayura, got to move on to possibly developing a relationship with Shimon.

* HoYay:
** Shimon and Rokuro have some interesting chemistry.

** Tenma and Rokuro's first meeting in the manga has heavy shades of this. It happening in a bathhouse doesn't exactly help.

** Yuuto is more than a little obsessed with Rokuro, seeing him as the only one worthy of his attention.
** Kamui called [[spoiler: Benio's new legs]] beautiful. Then, they exchanged names and she thanked him. It's the most "friendly" interaction he has on-screen, and, seeing his reaction, it's probably the friendliest anyone has ever been to him.
** Kamui appears to [[spoiler: develop a legitimate crush on her]] later on in the manga, due to her kindness. Too bad for Kamui, she detests him.

Traumatizing Rokuro to make him abandoning exorcism, Yūto later mocks him for the horror he put him through. * HypeBacklash: There was a time when the manga was being promoted ''left and right'' in Spain, which caused many people to become tired of the series even without reading it. Ironically, or maybe as a consequence of this, the anime wasn't even licensed there, despite being exactly the kind of product which distribution company Selecta Visión (which had and still has the monopoly of anime in Spain) would have bought only to make a fast buck.

* HypeBacklash: There was a time where the manga was being promoted ''left and right'' in Spain, which caused more people to be tired of the advertisment than interested on reading it. Ironically, or maybe as a consequence of this, the anime wasn't even licensed there, despite being exactly the kind of product which distribution company Selecta Visión (which had and still has the monopoly of anime in Spain) would have brought to make a fast buck.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The anime has a few. Depending on how tolerant you are, from a couple to a dozen at least. Most notable are the basara Suzu's (anime-only) [[ThatRemindsMeOfASong dance and song sequences]].
** The first time she did it in her introduction was bad enough. Then she came back and [[IdiotBall dragged]] [[OutOfCharacterMoment Benio and Rokuro]] into it...
* ClicheStorm: One of the most common criticisms. For some, it's hard to get excited about the series when almost everything about it has been done before in other ShonenGenre manga. Chapter 38 in particular got hit pretty hard when the readers realized that the story is about to go into the usual shonen-style TournamentArc.
** There are some subverted tropes and unexpected plot twists as well but they tend to be in the later parts of the manga. [[spoiler: To cite only two, who saw Benio losing her powers coming? Or even Mayura getting so much character development instead of being a token ClingyJealousGirl of a ChildhoodFriend?]]

*** Kamui appears to [[spoiler: develop a legitimate crush on her]] later on in the manga, due to her kindness. Too bad for Kamui, she detests him.

* {{Padding}}: The anime adaptation suffers greatly from this. It takes 20 episodes to reach the end of the fight against Yuuto, but to get there, material from the manga was greatly extended with many filler scenes throughout said 20 episodes. After that, the anime goes into complete anime-original territory.

* ViewerGenderConfusion: It takes a while to some fans to realize Kamui is male, although he is always shown bare chested, mainly because of his long eyelashes.

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:Y(u)uto Ijika]] turned out to be the one who masterminded a tragedy by tricking most of the innocent students and [[TheCorrupter corrupting them]] into [[AndIMustScream mindless Impurities]] which ended up forcing Rokuro to kill them. When Rokuro met again with [[spoiler:Yuto]], the latter gloated to Rokuro about what he had done in the past. He makes his second appearance by corrupting Rokuro's childhood friend into a mindless Impurity which not only angers Rokuro, but also her father. He showed his sadistic streak in the battlefield when he fought the Twin Star Exorcist for the third time by blowing off Benio's legs and stomping on them. When the two heroes are weakened, [[spoiler:Yuto]] also taunted Rokuro out of spite, and revealed his ulterior motive to him: he will drain all the spell powers from the humans in the entire country. By killing them.
** In the anime, he also took Benio's precious hairpin that he gave and then [[KickTheDog smashed it]]. Even after being defeated for the time being, it was revealed that [[spoiler:Yuto]] worked for another villain before backstabbing him. After waking up from his recovery, he traps Benio in a barrier and nearly kills her so that he could see Rokuro's [[EldritchAbomination true Impurity form]], which will bring the end of the world. Before the final confrontation started, [[spoiler:Yuto]] gave Rokuro a SadisticChoice because if he doesn’t fight him, he threatens to destroy the whole world. When Rokuro almost defeats [[spoiler:Yuto]] and refuses to kill him in the final battle, the latter then pulls his last trick by threatening Rokuro and tries to launch an attack into the human world. This resulted in Rokuro going insane and ended up dealing [[spoiler:Yuto]] a fatal blow.
