** The "Plumber's Rap" used in the opening sequence. Cheesy as heck, but very catchy.
** "Do the Mario" from the credits is probably even more well-known and fondly remembered for being simple and catchy.

** "Brooklyn Bound" in general is a powerful episode. In it, our heroes come across Salvodor Drainado, a famous plumber Mario and Luigi looked up to, who had disappeared into the Mushroom Kingdom. Now he's found a way back... only it's a one-way trip. This leaves Mario torn between going back home or staying and saving Princess Toadstool's kingdom. The princess herself insists they go, as "[they] already helped [her] more than [she] deserved," and they share a touching moment or two before (supposedly) leaving.

** In "Quest for Pizza" Koopa poisons Mario via a snake bite. This leaves him in a death-like coma. Luigi tries every food they have to try and wake Mario up to no avail:

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The "showdown" music in "Robo Koopa". Sort of a techno-Mario-SpaghettiWestern thing.
** Also music used only in specific episodes such as "The Mark of Zero" and "The Ten Koopmandments".
** It's divisive, but some likewise didn't mind the Mario Rap either in that NarmCharm kinda way. Hey, lyrics aside, it still is a rendition of the Mario theme.
** In "King Mario of Cramalot", the cover of Music/MichaelJackson's "Bad" that plays when Mario goes toe-to-toe with King Koopa is nothing short of amazing.

The Crazy Is Cool examples lack context or sound like misuse of the trope's old name, "Crazy Awesome". Critical Research Failure is no longer a trope.

* CrazyIsCool:
** Wrestling/CaptainLouAlbano as Mario. That is all.
** King Mario of Cramalot features a medieval duel between Mario -- wielding a mystical plumber's snake -- and Bowser -- wielding a mystical toilet plunger. With Music/MichaelJackson's "Music/Bad" playing in the background. Yes, really.
* CriticalResearchFailure
** In one episode, Mario and Luigi flee in complete terror from a Goomba, despite the fact that they have it outnumbered, and there's hardly any way it could actually pose a threat to them. A few seconds later in the same episode, they run on top of a field of Piranha Plants.
** Also in the opening, when Mario touches a star and gets fire powers. It's the Fire Flower that gives you this; the Starman gives you PowerUp (the shorts themselves generally get this right). It would still be off somewhat, since that form is called "Super Mario" in the show.

** Captain Lou outright naming Hell and using it to make his point about saying no to drugs while wearing a Mario hat is very bizarre, yes. But his points still stand regardless, and, in a way, a man playing one of the icons of childhood dropping the word "Hell" to warn kids may make it even more effective.

* Narm: The infamous "If You Do Drugs" [=PSA=]. While the message about the dangers of drugs is there and his heart was in the right place, seeing Captain Lou in his Mario hat say the word "Hell" is jarring, if not absolutely hilarious for someone representing the squeaky clean Nintendo mascot. Additionally, the oddly placed "please" to end the ad has been universally mocked.

Koopa's the Big Bad and a Card Carrying Villain, and he's far from the only villain in kid's media to use Nazi imaginery.

* WTHCostumingDepartment: While it's meant to be a faithful homage to the original Franchise/IndianaJones films, the red armband on King Koopa's arm in "Raiders of the Lost Mushroom" resembling that worn by UsefulNotes/NaziGermany is pretty hard to stomach in what's meant to be a family-friendly show.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: It's already obvious that the series was made when both the Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda franchises were still practically in their infancies by today's standards, but the drum machine-heavy soundtrack and occasional nods to Soviet communism (right down to a caricatured UsefulNotes/MikhailGorbachev making a guest appearance) will definitely hammer it in.

The Gorbachev episode would only become more dated following the real-life politician's death in 2022.

** The show doesn't have a lot of main villains that have no ties to King Koopa. There was only one episode ("Love 'Em & Leave 'Em") where Koopa was an AbsenteeActor--with Queen Rotunda as the villain in his stead--while Sultan Pashbah was the initial antagonist of "Mario's Magic Carpet", before Koopa took over.

** In "Brooklyn Bound", after Mario grabs a Fire Flower, he suddenly flies out of a pit by flapping his hands. This is especially ridiculous since no powerup from the games at the time (this was before VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3) could allow Mario to do this.
