* EhtnicScrappy: King Louie, a laid-back, devil-may-care orangutan who sings a catchy jazz song about wanting to be human, is kind of pushing it but not overtly based on Black stereotypes otherwise, so most viewers give him a pass. He was originally slated to be voiced by Louis Armstrong, but was recast as fellow jazz singer Louis Prima (thus maintaining TheDanza) when somebody at Disney realized that having a lazy ape who wants to be human being voiced by an African-American man at the height of the Civil Rights movement would be a very bad look.

** Kaa is praised as one of the most entertaining villains in Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon and, due to his HypnoticEyes, has garnered an unusual fanbase amid fans of using hypnosis and, to a lesser extent, vore lovers (''especially'' on [=DeviantArt=]). A second scene was in fact produced for the movie after he proved popular with test audiences.

** In the books, he's born crippled, meaning he finds it easier to hunt humans. This is a common explanation for many man-eating predators. The film removes his lameness, and therefore his reason for attacking humans.

The entry seems to be condemning Mowgli for just being a kid.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: We're supposed to root for and relate to Mowgli, but he comes off as less heroic and more bratty, selfish, and self-absorbed than the filmmakers probably intended. He doesn't seem too upset with leaving behind his wolf family and initially gives no good reason for wanting to stay in the jungle (despite the massive danger that entails) besides "it's more fun". The only guardian he seems to listen to is Baloo, and that's only because Baloo appeals to his more playful side unlike the strict Bagheera. And finally, he leaves his two guardians without even a care just because a pretty girl flirted with him.
** It does not help that Mowgli is also a PinballProtagonist who gets easily and quickly overshadowed by any animal character he's sharing the spotlight with, so doesn't get much time for development beyond his original protests before getting shunted off to the next scene.

*** More specifically, the song is sung in a [[UsefulNotes/BarbershopMusic barbershop]] style. Coincidentally, ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' would later devote an [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS5E1HomersBarbershopQuartet an episode to homaging the Beatles' career, in the form of a barbershop quartet.]] Adding onto this, ''The Simpsons'' would come to be owned by Disney a little under 50 years after the release of this film.

** Sweden also has a huge love for the film, as it is the most viewed movie of all time in the country. The movie, more specifically Bare Necessities, also plays an integral part in the beloved Christmas Special ''From All of Us to All of You'', which itself is its own can of worms.

* MisattributedSong: Due to this film being famous for featuring the work of Music/TheShermanBrothers, and "The Bare Necessities" being the film's SignatureSong, it's common for people to mistakenly refer to "Bare Necessities" as a Sherman Brothers song, when the song was actually written by Terry Gilkyson for a DarkerAndEdgier earlier draft of the film. When the film was reworked into the LighterAndSofter version we know today, all of Gilkyson's songs were scrapped except for "Bare Necessities", which was kept in the final film along with the songs the Shermans wrote.

** Shere Khan could be interpreted as an [[WellIntentionedExtremist avenger against Man, seeing how they have hunted and killed his species purely for their striped pelts]]. Bagheera does mention at one point that Shere Kahn will not let Mowgli grow up to be "another hunter with a gun". A storybook adaptation of the film even stated that Shere Khan had once been shot by a hunter, however there is so little detail that for all we know Shere Khan had not been the hunter's intended prey and had merely shot the tiger in self-defense.
