* FridgeHorror: After the ending of ''II.'' Okay, [[spoiler: Martin's cured, he and Beth now have the chance to be together, and Bartok [[LaserGuidedKarma got what he deserved]] (or [[AlasPoorVillain not]], depending on your view).

** Alan Hines aka Ronald Holmes, industrial spy and BigBad of ''Return of the Fly''. He betrays Phillipe to steal the teleporter's plans for himself and murders a British agent who tries to stop him. Then he discovers the teleporter can mix and match living things. His most dickishly evil move? When he knocks out Phillipe in a fight, he places the unconscious Phillipe in the teleporter and adds a fly, ''knowing'' Phillipe will come out a monster. This backfires on Ronald when the mutated Phillipe tracks him down and kills him.

** Dr. Bartok from ''The Fly II'' is a [[CorruptCorporateExecutive corrupt technology business magnate]] who will do absolutely anything for money and power. Veronica, Seth Brundle's lover from the previous film, has been implanted with Seth's mutated offspring. Bartok lies to her and Stathis about the incredible danger, and she dies during the birth. He keeps the seemingly normal infant, now named Martin, as a test subject until his mutations will reappear. He presents himself as a fatherly figure to Martin while manipulating him for his own ends. He uses a lab dog which Martin grew attached to for the telepod experiments, and when the experiment fails he keeps the mutated creature alive in agony for years for further study. When Martin grows up at an accelerated rate he gives Martin a private home for himself and allows him to make some human contacts, but installs secret surveillance to continue observing him. He wants to use Martin's unique physiology to control the morpology of all life on Earth and make his company truly hegemonic.

* AdaptationDisplacement - There was a short story written first.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome - Where there is Cronenberg, there is usually HowardShore, and where there is Shore, there is this trope.

* DesignatedVillain - In the 1986 version, this is subverted by Stathis Borans. While he plays the role of the antagonist at the beginning, the mutated Seth soon takes this position while [[spoiler: Stathis protects his lover from the deranged mutant that wants to fuse with her.]]

* {{Narm}} - The infamous "HEEEELP MEEEE! HEEEEEEEEELP MEEEEEEEEE!" scene from the original. (They had to keep reshooting the scene because the actors couldn't stop cracking up.) Appears as a ShoutOut in the remake, when Seth - under completely different circumstances - whimpers "Help me. Please, please help me," and the Narm is gone.

* {{Squick}} - The Seth Brundle 'Natural History Museum'.

** [[spoiler:Anton Bartok in the sequel. While he seems nice at first, he turns out to be a BitchInSheepsClothing and a SelfishEvil monster who will do absolutely anything for money and power. He was completely aware of Martin's transformation and decided to use it for his own ends and keeps a horrifically mutated dog around for years, despite it being clearly in agony. WordOfGod has even said he's based on the absolute worst corporate America had to offer. Might be intentional, as if anyone ''less'' evil than him suffering [[AndIMustScream his horrific fate]] would've been overly cruel.]]

* CrowningMomentOfFunny - The exchange between Veronica and Stathis in the clothing store. The look of absolute incredulity on Stathis' face makes it even funnier:

** This line from Stathis to Brundle before he leaves:

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome - Stathis, missing a foot and a hand, crawls over to his shotgun, retrieves it, and disables the teleporter before Ronnie is fused with "brundlefly".

* NightmareFuel -The baboon experiment scene.
** Brundle sneaking up on Stathis and melting his hand and foot. And it's implied that if Veronica hadn't stopped him, he would have melted his freaking face!
** The moment Seth's flesh started to fall off and the Fly-head erupted from his normal head.
** Seth realizing that Ronnie should stay away from him because he is starting to lose his humanity. Very tense scene.
*** Kind of doubles as a TearJerker if you notice the genuine tears Seth and Ronnie were both shedding after.
** The maggot baby nightmare. Especially since it's not framed as a dream until she wakes up.
** The guard in the sequel trying to crawl out of the shaft before a falling elevator gets him. [[spoiler: He doesn't make it.]]

* TearJerker
** The best test to see if your friend has a soul is whether or not he/she cries at the ending.
** When the boy protagonist of the sequel [[spoiler: euthanized the deformed dog. To clarify, he saw this dog become horribly mutated in a failed teleportation experiment two years ago, and was told it had died. He finds the dog still alive two years later, clearly in huge pain and having to eat liquefied food, yet it's able to recognize him. Even sadder is that the protagonist pets him while he is whimpering, and what's left of its tail thumps the floor.]]

** Brundle melting Boran's hand and foot.

** Another moment happens during David Cronenberg's commentary when he talks about Jeff Goldblum learning how to talk with various dental appliances in his mouth throughout the transformation sequences. [[DeadBabyComedy He does this at the point where Veronica rips Seth's jaw off.]] Cronenberg even lampshades it:

* NightmareFuel - Some parts of it are rather scary.
** Like the baboon experiment scene.

* TheWoobie: Seth, poor Seth. Especially in his second stage of mutation - Veronica is compelled to embrace him even with corrosive vomit covering his clothes. Ronnie's psyche doesn't fare so well with his boyfriend slowly mutating.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: [[http://1000misspenthours.com/reviews/reviewse-g/fly1986.htm 1000 Misspent Hours]] makes a pretty solid case for Cronenberg's film being an allegory for HIV infection in the 1980s.

** This little gem before the final transformation.
