* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Complaints of the first film are that Juno becomes the DesignatedVillain [[spoiler: and Sarah leaves her to die in a rather callous fashion. Here Juno is saved, she and Sarah forgive each other and both pull off {{Heroic Sacrifice}}s to save Rios]].
** Another complaint was that Juno was the only non-white character and presented as the most flawed - although that's more of a case of Natalie Mendoza [[AbilityOverAppearance simply giving the best audition]] (as the character was written to be race-neutral). The sequel makes Rios a prominent protagonist, has the white male authority figure be a complete HateSink and [[spoiler: reveals Juno to still be alive and redeems her]].
** A heavily debated question was over what was going on between Juno and Sarah's husband. This confirms that Juno was having an affair at the time of his death.

* AssPull: [[spoiler: Juno being alive in this film can come off to some as this, since while she was shown to be an ActionGirl in the previous film, her final scene showed her being surrounded by tons Crawlers with an injured leg and seemingly no hope of survival]].

* {{Sequelitis}}: For various reasons, ''Part 2'' received a much weaker reception than its predecessor. Among these include but not limited to the lack of the original's trademark darkness (and thus atmosphere). The first one's all-female cast helped it stand out, as well as its diversity with nationality; this one is a mixed gender cast that's all-American except for Sarah, making it feel rather generic (although Rios was received well enough out of the bunch).

Added DiffLines:

* SoOkayItsAverage: While not considered outright terrible, the first film set the bar so high, and this one was just considered too derivative and generic. While some aspects like Juno and Sarah's redemption arcs, and Rios as a character are quite decent, the film rehashes too much of the original's beats and abandons the aspects that made it special (see above).

Added DiffLines:

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** A plan was to have the girls from the first film still appear as visions or dream sequences, making it hard to trust Sarah's sanity. For Becca in particular, who fans think could have possibly survived, it could add more doubt and tension as to whether she is still alive.
** For that matter, Becca could have factored into the story, since she was well-liked by fans but found a little underdeveloped compared to the others. The fact that she was only dragged off and easily survived could have lent itself easily to her being revealed as NotQuiteDead. Especially since they did the same with Juno, whose death was even more overtly implied in the first film.

* {{Sequelitis}}: For various reasons, ''Part 2'' received a much weaker reception than its predecessor. Among these include the lack of the original's trademark darkness (and thus atmosphere) and the tacked-on ShockingSwerve.
* ShockingSwerve: The ending. [[spoiler:Rios]] escapes only to be coldcocked with a shovel by [[spoiler:the old man at the beginning]]. With a confused look on his face, he drags her back to the hole and leaves her there.

It's kind of hard to like the women when they would kill each other in a heartbeat in order to save themselves, even if they do change their minds about it later.
