* BrokenBase: The film's more pragmatic approach to adapting the first two ''Literature/TheRailwaySeries'' books has caused a great deal of this. Some don't mind the changes (even preferring some of them) and are just happy to see a recent Thomas film that actively ties itself to the ''Railway Series'', on top of arguing that there's already the first season of the show for those who desire more a faithful adaptation of the first two books, with the pragmatic approach making more sense as a way of distinguish itself from the first season. Others however, dislike the approach and feel the changes to the characters to make it more in line with the later seasons does a disservice to the original stories, on top of muddying several aspects from the original stories (such as Thomas' character arc).

*NightmareFuel: James' crash. While it happened off-screen in "Thomas and the Breakdown Train", here we get to see it play out in its entirety. We even get a shot of the guard looking back in terror, just before his brakevan buckles and derails on its side. The bonus of hearing James' screams for help and the sinister remix of the Runaway theme throughout don't help at all.
** It's made even worse when the cars come off the rails. You can hear the Troublesome Trucks ''SCREAMING, COMPLETELY TERRIFIED''. They're the ones that caused it in the first place, but ''still!''

* BrokenBase: ''The Adventure Begins'' is a bit of a nasty topic for some, as there are fans who despise it for being a "bad adaptation" because of its ArtisticLicense, ignoring things that were done wrong back in Britt Allcroft's days.
