* FunnyAneurysmMoment: One of the several spoofs done by ''Series/TheBennyHillShow'' of the original British ''Series/SaleOfTheCentury'' (itself pretty chintzy due to laws at the time) was a female-oriented version which used only male models and was overly obviously cheap. In other words, Creator/BennyHill pretty much predicted the American ''Temptation''. (Even weirder, both shows' rights are owned by Fremantle thanks to buyouts and mergers over the years.)

trope misuse and complaining

* HilariousInHindsight: The pitchfilm, as noted on the main tab, which used clips from the two pilots that had been taped on the Australian set in 2006. Not only did the set mislead (except for the revolving door), but none of the minigames used in both the pilots and series were seen in the pitch (although they ''were'' seen in series-debut promos) while one of the clips shown of the Australian version featured the '''real''' Fame Game. The pitch also concentrated on the shopping aspect, barely mentioning that there was even a game involved. In short, it was deceitful.
* LowestCommonDenominator: The subject matter, usually in Knock-Off, Fame Game, and the "either/or" SpeedRound. The ''[[Series/TreasureHuntUS Treasure Hunt]]''-esque "mostly women as contestants" route seemed nonsensical, and the fact that the IdiotBall hit considerably more often than it really should've was another sign that they were looking for dense contestants.

In [[https://sb2tlopg.wordpress.com/2012/03/02/interview-with-rossi-morreale/ this 2012 interview]] he noted that when he was a kid he would just love to stay home and watch game shows all day - including the Jim Perry version of ''Sale'', making him somewhat of a PromotedFanboy. Hell, he even namechecked original ''Sale'' host Jack Kelly (who hosted the now almost-entirely gone early 70s version that aired on NBC) in that interview.

* WhatAnIdiot: One particularly egregious instance was the single-run episode aired April 1, 2008 - one player spent her lead of ''T$45'' for a chance at an Instant Cash prize of ''$500'' (the minimum)...and got $100. Not only did she lose the game, but she lost to the non-tied contestant — who won with T$35!

The format changes provoked this reaction from ''Sale of the Century'' fans. Most fans had been expecting either a continuation of the 1980s Sale and/or a good translation of the Aussie Temptation.

* WhatAnIdiot: Pretty much 95% of the players. A contestant on April 1, 2008 spent her lead of ''$45'' for a chance at the Instant Cash minimum of $500, and got $100. Not only did she lose the game, but she lost to the non-tied contestant — who won with $35.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: A spoof done by ''TheBennyHillShow'' of the original UK ''Sale'' was a female-oriented version which used only male models and was cheap as hell. '''BennyHill predicted the American ''Temptation''.'''
* HilariousInHindsight: The pitchfilm that got sent to interested stations used clips from the two pilots filmed on the Australian set. Not only did the set mislead, but '''none''' of the minigames used in both the pilots and series were seen in the pitch (although they ''were'' seen in series-debut promos) while one of the clips shown of the Australian version featured the '''real''' Fame Game. The pitch also concentrated on the shopping aspect, barely mentioning that there was even a game involved. In short, it was deceitful.
* LowestCommonDenominator: The subject matter, usually in Knock-Off, Fame Game, and the "either/or" SpeedRound. The ''[[TreasureHuntUS Treasure Hunt]]''-esque "mostly women as contestants" route seemed nonsensical, and the fact that the IdiotBall hit considerably more often than it really should've was another sign that they were looking for dense contestants.
