* {{Anvilicious}}: Some fans have expressed disappointment at how the film seemingly goes out of its way to make Waller as villainous as possible, such as when she [[spoiler:executes her staff in cold blood]] as well as be [[spoiler:ultimately responsible for Enchantress going out of control]]. It's plainly obvious the film is trying to make Waller extremely evil to make the titular Suicide Squad look better in comparison.

* WinBackTheCrowd: After concerns over ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' being too dark and serious, many fans are looking forward to the movie's lighter, funnier tone. {{Subverted}} once the reviews started coming in, which scored it very similarly to ''Batman v. Superman'' and only cited it as a mild improvement due to the cast and humor.

* {{Narm}}: [[spoiler: Enchantress']] bizarre dance ritual in the finale.

* [[spoiler:It is never fully explored how or why El Diablo can change into a Aztec fire demon, or how he even got his powers in the first place. This would have been very interesting if it had been explained at all, and given his death, probably never will be.]]

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: [[spoiler:Joker seemingly goes down with the helicopter during the third act... and surprisingly to no one returns unharmed at the end.]]

* HeReallyCanAct: Despite the complaints in other areas, many critics agree that the acting was top-notch.

** In light of the more murderous incarnations of Superman and Batman in the other two movies in this universe, it's possible to see the Suicide Squad as more authentically courageous and moral than the DC stalwarts. Unlike Batman's vast fortune and Superman's powers, most of the squad are poor, exploited by the state (and subject to torture and beatings in confinement); the powers that they have cursed them with insanity/skin diseases and mutation; they're entirely blameless for the collateral damage of the film [[spoiler:caused in fact by Amanda Waller's incompetence and underestimating the Enchantress; and yet, when they are given a chance to walk away after learning the truth, they heroically step up and risk their lives for virtually no reward, and El Diablo shows more guilt about the violence inflicted by his actions than both Batman and Superman -- and in the end they get locked up once more ''and'' screwed over by Waller.]].

** Deadshot is either an anti-hero with some codes and ethics who genuinely loves his daughter, or an amoral sociopath with DelusionsOfEloquence who uses his MoralityPet as an anchor to feel better about his bad deeds. [[spoiler:His sexism towards his ex-wife, demanding full custody despite being a deplorable role model, while resenting her boyfriend and having casual discussions about his life as an assassin to his daughter suggests he's someone who simply has no awareness of his own amorality. Then again, it's questionable whether it was actually was sexism towards his ex, or disgust with how she was treating their daughter. Considering his daughter indicated her mother wasn't even ''feeding her'', this hardly seems unjustified. Is he a bad man? Undoubtedly es, but at least he could support his child.]]

** The brief shot of [[spoiler: Harley Quinn apparently having been saved from drowning by Batman]] seems to address the complaint about this version of Batman supposedly killing people and also gives fans a glimpse of a more classical and moral Batman who turns criminals in.

** The Joker's presence in the movie, primarily because he never has been part of the Squad in the comics. However, a notable amount of fans are excited for Jared Leto and his interpretation of the role, or are just interested in how it'll play out. As it turns out, Joker is not a member of the Squad in the film and will instead be in an antagonistic role.

** The Enchantress, [[spoiler:as played by Cara Delevingne. Her supervillain scheme may be conventional, but her withered look and golden eyes is genuinely unnerving (especially at the end) and Delevingne's exaggerated dance-like actions while setting up her portral while also calling out the Squad who she knows is in the same room is quite effective]].

* MagnificentBastard: Amanda Waller [[spoiler:plays the Suicide Squad and Rick Flagg to do her bidding, and while her plans with the Enchantress goes awry she still manages to reassert control over the Squad, screw them over and in the end, she got bailed out by Batman who seems totally unaware of her murder of her own staff, playing the World's Greatest Detective for a chump]].

** Amanda Waller [[spoiler:crosses it when she murders in cold blood her own staff and group of interns when the Squad comes for her. These were absolutely innocent people, who didn't have clearance and who were rubbed out for Waller's own career. Deadshot is an amoral sociopath who nonetheless has never killed women and children, and it's impossible not to agree with him when he says that Waller, Flag and Co. by condoning this action have no moral ground over him and other Squadmates]].

** Batman only gets about 10 minutes of screentime, but par the course with Batman, every second counts.

** [[spoiler: Fans who were looking forward to Katana were disappointed with her relatively small role. Some sites even compared her treatment to that of Comicbook/{{Jubilee}} from ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', another Asian superhero who fans were excited for but turned out to be fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Though she does get more of a backstory and is at least involved in the central conflict to some extent.]]

** The decision to cast Creator/WillSmith in an ensemble cast film, given his usual role as a MotorMouth ActionHero archetype. From the trailers he acts the exact same way as the typical Will Smith character, leading many to worry he will steal all the attention from the rest of the cast and turn the film into "Will Smith and the Squad". The fact he's listed first in the cast, and how he talks in every trailer hasn't helped the case.
** The costumes for the female Squad members have proven divisive due to being more skimpy and significantly less practical than the male characters. Katana has the least split due to her costume for only having a bare midriff, but Harley Quinn and Enchantress wear very little. Harley's costume in particular has gained much controversy especially given her [[MsFanservice sex appeal]]. Some fans weren't too bothered by Harley's outfit since she has worn similar costumes and her movie outfit has been approved by her co-creators Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.

* MoralEventHorizon: If murdering Robin - a ''[[WouldHurtAChild minor]]'' - before the events of ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' didn't make Joker enough of a monster already, his treatment of Dr. Harleen Quinzell removes any kind of sympathy to the character.

* SpiritualAdaptation: The movie is actually a more effective substitute of the comic book ComicBook/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen than [[Film/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen its own film adaptation]]. It has a bunch of surly antiheroes who cross the lines between heroes and monsters (much like the original comic), led by [[spoiler:a girl (Harley Quinn) haunted by her affection for a monster (Quinn-Joker=Mina-Dracula), a straight hero who is secretly mourning and grieving for his loved one (Quatermain=Rick Flagg), a villain who has a strained relationship with his daughter (Captain Nemo=Deadshot), and monsters with soft centers (El Diablo and Killer Croc). It even has a LovableRogue potential traitor in Captain Boomerang (Invisible Man). All of them are also led by a shady intelligence officer (M and Campion Bond/Amanda Waller)]].
