** Goro Maki opens up many questions about his true nature, since all we have is secondhand information. It's definitely clear he'd become embittered with humanity, since he obfuscated the solution in his notes on purpose. But to what extent was he involved in the events? The timing feels far too perfect for him to have killed himself without knowing that Godzilla was about to emerge, so did he predict it, or even actively cause it? This is something speculated on in the film itself, and never shown to us. We also never learn how he killed himself, which leaves room for all kinds of questions as to whether he simply committed mundane suicide or killed himself in a way that involved Godzilla. One theory even suggests that he is Godzilla in some sense--"Who Will Know" certainly works well from his perspective.

I'm adding a note because the poor lighting has been confirmed by MANY sources to be the poor blu-ray transfer rather than the film itself.

* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Completely averted in an early scene, The JDF are armed and ready to take down a much weaker and smaller Godzilla, and it seems that at this stage they might have a chance, then one of the pilots spots a civilian carrying someone on his back still in the area, and... the helicopters back off an return to base, as shown by the rest of this movie, following this trope in this instance backfires horribly.

The 'Jerkiness' is intentional-he's targeting projectiles individually with each beam using his radar. He rapidly moves and shifts to intercept and destroy them.

* SpecialEffectFailure: While the movie is pretty good about avoiding this problem in spite of its relatively-small budget (presumed to be around $10 million or slightly more), the CGI looks a bit unconvincing at times. off during his daytime assault on Tokyo, and they move around in a jerky fashion as opposed to animating fluidly. Even in the night raid scene, his and subsequent cooldown pose look a bit unnatural.

* HypeBacklash: Shin Godzillais widely seen as one of the best made Godzilla films of all time.
