This attempt had [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools notably failed]], as the attempt was criticized by MoralGuardians[[note]][[HistoryRepeats which is effectively a repeat of what happened in the 30s]], as backlash towards Mickey's original characterization was what caused Disney to shift to his current more friendly characterization in the first place[[/note]], forcing Disney to go back to his current characterization for a couple of decades until they tried again with the aforementioned ''Epic Mickey'' and Paul Rudish shorts, which were more successful.

** This troper found a PICTURE of a screenshot in some Disney pamphlet when she was around 4. She Literally couldn't get that image out of her mind, and had nightmares for years. She is still (about 15 years later) VERY freaked out, and when she stumbled on the page, she nearly screamed when she saw the Monster!Mickey. seriously. This troper thinks she needs counseling. (oh, and she never even saw the short.
