Ash didn't even remember Serena...

Ash didn't remember Serena when he met with her again in Kalos

** Ash tells Max about a "good friend" he had and he hopes they're still friends. It seems he's talking about Misty but its more likely Ash was referring to Serena.

* MagnificentBastard: Butler was on the surface a friendly magician. But unbeknownst to most, Butler was a former Team Magma scientist who vowed revenge after an experiment to create a Groudon failed and resulted in his firing. Working with his girlfriend Diane, Butler found Jirachi hibernating in a crystal and gave it to Max in order to awaken it. Capturing the Pokémon Absol to prevent it from interfering, Butler attempted to use Jirachi's true eye as power source for creating a Groudon. When Ash and friends the group escaped with Jirachi, with the help of Diane and Absol, Butler followed them with a tracking device. Ambushing them, Butler successfully used Jirachi's third eye to create Groudon. When the Groudon came out as a energy stealing monster, Butler came up with the plan to destroy it, hoping to undo all problems that he caused.

It's obviously meant to be a reference to Misty. Ash explicitly refers to the friend as a "she", and at the time of the movie's release, Misty was the only major character who fit the line's description. Plus, as the example mentioned, 4kids was infamous for slipping in these sorts of hints. It may not be an explicit reference, but the intent is pretty obvious.

** I don't think the Pokémon universe is so cheesy that it would actually make a wishing trinket come true. The real point on that thing was as a clock of sorts, to remind the viewer what night it was. And it worked quite well.
** May can also be forgiven in that she likely forgot about folding the final point of the wishmaker in the midst of the seventh night's events, namely an EldritchAbomination in the form of Groudon sucking up everyone Manga/Akira-style and . In a series that runs on ThePowerOfFriendship, it'd be more in-character for May to immediately run off to help save Jirachi instead of first worrying about her wish. May even makes a note of not dwelling on her disappointment by stating people have to work hard to make their own dreams come true, a notion that Ash agrees with.

Flash forward to 2014 and the Gen III remakes, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, introduce Primal Reversion, a transformation for the mascot Legendaries similar in function to Mega Evolution. Three guesses what Primal Groudon greatly resembles.
