Given how Max is a Base Breaking Character at worst, I doubt this trope applies to him in any form.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: A variation regarding Max. He's one of the most unpopular companions of Ash in the show's history, but many fans (including said detractors) look fondly on his portrayal in this film as a very bright spot for his character.

Moved from the Trivia page.

* FanNickname: The fake Groudon has been referred to by the fans as "Franken-Groudon" and "Virus Groudon." Or you could always go with Giant Zombie Groudon. Whichever floats your boat.

* NightmareFuel: The pseudo-Groudon and its tentacles. It is enormous, drains the land dry while killing all plantlife just by existing, and its tentacles absorb everything they catch. Everything caught by this monster is visible inside its stomach, struggling in vain to break free. Fighting against it doesn't seem to do anything other than irritate it. No wonder everything runs away when it shows up.

** Applying to the English dub, the trailer heavy emphasizes a beast of hard liquid as centre focus, and looks like a corrupted version of a solid red character, it only shows up during the last 10-15 minutes, but causes many plot-altering events in that limited screentime, and . Is it the fake Groudon, or is it Venom?

** It becomes even messier when hindsight allows some fans to reinterpret it so he was Retcon talking about Serena (even though he didn't remember her until they reunited in XY). Obviously, that line couldn't have been written with her in mind, since she didn't exist in any form for another decade, but if one really wanted to revise it, they can. Though outside of shippers, very few are likely to think so deeply about the exchange.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: That subplot with May's wishing thing? Yeah, it seems like something important is going to come from that, but then she forgets to put in the last piece. WhatAnIdiot In May's defense, though, they reached Farina by the time of the last night, and she got preoccupied with everything that was going on at the time.
** And since she bought it at some random kiosk set up for the festival, it probably wouldn't have worked anyway.

* HilariousInHindsight: Take a good, long look at the fake Groudon from this movie. Flash forward to 2014 and the Gen III remakes, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, introduce Primal Reversion, a transformation for the mascot Legendaries similar in function to Mega Evolution. Three guesses what Primal Groudon greatly resembles.

Actually I think she did get her wish. If you watch the credits the guy who sold it to her gives them a ride in a truck. I think her wish was to not have to walk for a change. XD

** It becomes even messier when hindsight allows some fans to reinterpret it so he was talking about Serena. Obviously, that line couldn't have been written with her in mind, since she didn't exist in any form for another decade, but if one really wanted to revise it, it's not contradicted in-universe. Though outside of shippers, few are likely to think so deeply about the exchange.

Some (especially Pokéshippers) like it for the continuity it creates and find it to be rather sweet on Ash's part, while others dislike it for being another example of 4Kids altering the original in an attempt to push Pokéshipping.
