She is a selfish person that hasn't really done a lot to dismantle animal cruelty in meat facilities, but she did try to be as diplomatic and reasonable as possible when literally every other corporate character is some type of sociopath, and has to clean up her father's legacy. Ultimately, she's forced to surrender to her ruthless sister.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: [[ABoyAndHisX A story about a young girl who is separated from her animal best friend]] and has to go on an adventure filled journey to find her and return back home sounds like a heartwarming kids movie, doesn't it? The thing is that this movie also has graphic depictions of animal experiments and slaughter, as well as [[RapeAsDrama forced mating]] and violence against human activists. The not-for-kids aspect is at least reinforced by the dropping of an F-bomb within the first 10 minutes.

Thankfully, audiences and critics alike lambasted that view and criticized the "anti-streaming" view instead. This didn't affect the film's later reception, and in turn becomes HilariousInHindsight that Bong Joon-ho managed to win the ''Palme d'Or'' in 2019.

* GratuitousRape: Some viewers and critics view the infamous mating scene as this. Aside from existing just for the sake of narrative shock value (since Okja ends up in the slaughterhouse long before she has a chance to give birth), the scene's only other purpose seems to be to show how egregiously evil the lab workers are. The fact that the male pig in the scene looks nothing like Okja or any of her species, instead looking like some kind of porcine Frankenstein's monster, doesn't help matters.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The titular creature itself does look very real, especially in close-ups.

* AwesomeMoments: Mija outrunning the Mirando staff chasing her, and her OutsideRide.
** ALF [[spoiler:dropping a giant anvil on Lucy and Mirando at the superpig festival by showing the mutated horrors within the lab, and the rape and torture of Okja, on live video in front of the entire audience. Leads to a VillainousBreakdown by Lucy and, unfortunately, her twin sister Nancy - far more ruthless - taking over.]]
* FunnyMoments: The film, despite its serious moments, isn't without Bong's trademark brand of offbeat humour.
** The Great Pig Chase through downtown Seoul, particularly when poor hippopotamus-sized Okja ends up in a shopping mall. "Bull in a china shop" doesn't begin to describe the resulting chaos - and every step of the way, there's company men and ALF trying their best to keep pace. After Okja's accidental rampage is finally stopped, the ALF members and company men battle it out - with tranquilizer guns and umbrellas.
** As Mija, Okja and ALF finally make their escape from the Mirando guards, soon only Mundo is left running after them. Mija rubs Okja's rear, stimulating her into using her high pressure ejection system and defecating on him.
