Discussed with Tropers/Reymma in 'Is this an example?' and private message. It was decided to cut the contested Die For Our Ship example and scale back the Americans Hate Tingle example.

* AmericansHateTingle: Geordo is ''very'' popular in Japan, with him being the most favored and most marketed choice for Catarina over there. He's much less liked in the West due to his questionable behavior around Catarina and recurring lack of regard for her boundaries, which bothers Westerners more than it does Easterners (who are more inclined to handwave extreme physical imposition by males as just how romance is supposed to work); the majority of Western fans one meets are, more likely than not, [[YuriGenre going to be ardent shippers of her with one (or more) of the other girls]] or just support keeping the entire harem together. However, Season 2 saw Geordo gaining newfound popularity in some circles after [[WhamShot he kisses Catarina]] and repeatedly tries to make it clear how much he loves her -- some fans actually began [[TheWoobie feeling sorry]] for Geordo (especially when the very next episode showcased his DarkAndTroubledPast), and now see the rest of the harem as annoying {{Third Wheel}}s getting between a legitimately-engaged couple.

** Some of Geordo's hatedom changed their minds in Season 2, after he [[WhamShot kisses Catarina]] and confesses his true feelings. Many fans were appreciative that ''someone'' finally had the guts to try and cut through the denseness that is [[FanNickname "Bakarina"]], and thus became annoyed by the rest of the harem switching gears to ''simply hindering Geordo at all costs'' while doing very little to actually win her over themselves and now see them as {{Third Wheel}}s getting between a legitimate engaged couple. Based on reactions, competition on equal footing is one thing, but what amounts to "Romantic TallPoppySyndrome" comes across as irritating.

YMMV cannot be played with

** The only character who largely avoids this reaction is Alan, who is instead considered an EnsembleDarkhorse. This is largely because he is the last of the main cast to realize his feelings for Catarina, has amazing onscreen chemistry with her, has relatable and interesting character flaws and development, and is too earnest and sincere to resort to the same scheming/manipulation as half of the other cast.

* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Considering what half of the premise is, this was inevitable. Alongside her actual love interests, Catarina is shipped with almost every other character in the cast that has any meaningful interactions with her, whether the other character has actual romantic interest in her or not.

This extends to Fanfic, where Catarina can become the inverse of "Anything That Moves" in that everyone, from any universe, becomes infatuated with her.

** Game Catarina is a cruel, manipulative AlphaBitch at her ''nicest'' who has practically zero screentime before she essentially ceases to exist. Yet despite this, she has a fairly sizable fanbase who love despite or perhaps [[LoveToHate ''because'' of]] her glaring flaws. This tends to veer into DracoInLeatherPants territory when it comes to fanfiction, as stories focused on her tend to give her far more sympathetic qualities than she's ever had in canon.

** The scene in Season 2 where Keith pins Catarina to his bed and says, "if you enter a man's room in night clothing, you can't complain about what happens" has been extremely polarizing amongst fans. Some became {{Squick}}ed out by what came across as an implied rape threat along with BlamingTheVictim, while others were impressed by Keith's forwardness, felt that he was telling the truth, and that Catarina was "fortunate" that he settled for kissing her on the forehead--or they took into account the context of the episode and how, shortly before this, Keith was trying to caution Catarina because Geordo was being increasingly forward with her, and figured that Keith was (at least in part) warning her against getting into situations like this because of that.

Catarina's case is in-universe, as least based on its current text, so I copied this to Sandbox.Ambiguous Disorder as part of the AD/DA cleanup. Acchan's case is speculation by the authors, so it stays.

** Catarina's family and friends pretty much all agree she's not normal by any stretch of the imagination, and they find it charming and frustrating in equal measure. She acts on impulse, is oblivious to subtext, can be spacey and absent-minded, is easily distracted, has a short memory span towards anything she has little interest in, has only a few things she's interested in trying to learn, frequently forgets or puts off her homework, isn't good at long-term planning, takes time to absorb information, seems immune to lectures, etc. She ''did'', after all, [[ChildhoodBrainDamage take a nasty blow to the head as a child]]. Her having some form of dysmnesia from her fall is even suspected, mostly by her parents and maids.

While it continues where the first season left off with Catarina getting in a new adventure after being kidnapped by pirates, many fans were disappointed when they learned the game would only have routes for all of Catarina's male love interests only and none of the females with the latter being made side characters. Many fans felt the makers of the game missed the point of what made the series popular since it had a female protagonist with a bisexual harem of both men and women and they failed to provide the fans the opportunity for Catarina to have Yuri routes with her female friends.
