** Actually there is a more logical explanation for boys watching girl cartoons. There are plenty of action cartoons for boys but -adventure- ones are few and far between. Girl cartoons that aren't SliceOfLife often are magical adventures. They just have to [[CombatPragmatist use what they got]].

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The much-maligned G2 line is an unusual case here at TV Tropes, as we have to agree with the fandom here. Then the news of ''Friendship is Magic'' arrived and the rest is history.

No child alive could have ever tuned in to something entitled "My Little Pony" and expect to see a horrific scene in which three Ponies are transformed into minions of the demonic-looking centaur Tirac by his Rainbow of Darkness. Keep in mind that this was made by the same people behind the D&D cartoon. Besides that, we have the more mundane scary dragons who swoop down to abduct cute little ponies, chillingly earnest threats of decapitation, and a fierce gargoyle-like fellow ([[WhatMeasureIsANonCute though he turns out to be a nice guy]]) and ponies being set on fire before being transformed into EldritchAbominations, Tirek's mounstruous henchmen, Tirek's container of the Rainbow of Darkness (A eerie bag with an ominous glow that pulsated like a heart) and of course, Tirek himself... the first TV special was unusually dark for a movie targeted to little girls.

* SugarApocalypse: The pilot episode, which made it the worst kind of NightmareFuel.
