* BetterThanCanon: Thanks to the focus and expansion on character's various issues and problems, some fans have claimed that gorilla_fingers' interpretations of the RWBY characters are this trope.
** Pyrrha's dislike of her fame and sense of isolation are expanded out from something designed to make her fall for Jaune into a nuanced aspect of her character.
** Yang's mother and abandonment issues form a big part of her character and a big subplot is dealing with them, which wasn't explored with as much depth in canon.
** Then there are those who just say that All Might in RWBY more than makes up for the price of admission.

In V4, her arc was more about her trauma and depression and the family thing only came up in her talk with Tai and V5 may have gone into it a little, but not with as much depth or time as some would've liked. Still I'll alter the wording just to get pass this already. I hope this is enough for you.

Not ignored, since that pretty much is her character arc in Volumes 4 and 5.

** Yang's mother and abandonment issues form a big part of her character and a big subplot is dealing with them, which was largely brushed over in canon.

Yeah I'm putting this back. Specifically because I feel that this does have some merit. Yang has very little to work with in Volumes 1-3, not to the extent that Blake, Weiss and even Ruby had. And even in Volumes 4-6, the handling of her character is also dubious. Her arc in Volume 4 is more about her recovery in general, Volume 5 doesn't really utilize her previously established desire to find her mother and has her ignore Raven to instead find Ruby and in Volume 6 her arc was more about her relationship with Blake and her trauma with Adam. Overall the plot Yang had about her issues only really gotten followed up on in Volume 5, which execution of it isn't really in depth. Overall I feel that this part does warrant a place here.

* {{Adorkable}}:
** Izuku's a shy, easily flustered, and prone to dorky fanboying while meeting one of his idols. All of his attempts at flirting are all hilariously cheesy at best, with Yang struggling not to bust out laughing over how hard he's trying and how bad his pickup lines are. She even calls him "too pure for this world" [[spoiler:right after she offers to become his girlfriend.]]
** Ruby's no less dorky than Izuku, admiring every cool weapon she comes across and asking for autographs when she meets a particularly cool Huntsman or Huntress. She also frequently mixes up words and gets them wrong.
---> '''Ruby:''' Hooray for... uh, what's the word for getting by thanks to your family?\\
'''Weiss:''' Nepotism, and no Ruby, what Shoto and I have isn't-\\
'''Ruby:''' HOORAY FOR NEPOTISM!
** Sun Wukong's kind-hearted and a bit goofy and childish, wanting to invoke a hardboiled cop drama while doing reconnaissance by drinking coffee, but he can't handle how bitter it is and drinks hot cocoa instead.

* HollywoodHomely: Downplayed when compared to his original series. Izuku considers himself plain-looking and Ochako is also quick to call him normal looking compared to others like Katsuki, [[{{Bishonen}} Shouto]] and [[LongHairedPrettyBoy Ren]]. At the same time, his hard-earned muscles are commented on frequently by his friends, who all become flustered around him while he's shirtless because of his sex appeal. Izuku is aware of this, but still doesn't think he's all that impressive when compared to someone like Yatsuhashi. Narration also calls his face unable to decide between being cute and handsome and none of the girls ever actually calls him plain-looking.

** Since the Izuku shipping debate was settled, there's been low-level combat between those who want to see Katsuki paired with Ruby or with Neo. A newer one to pop up has been the low-level battle between those who want to see Kirishima get together with Blake or Pyrrha.
* UnfortunateImplications: Given the enormous amount of LGBTQA representation in RWBY, the fact that every single major relationship - explicit or teased - in the story is heterosexual, with practically every named female character fawning over the (male)protagonist can be quite offputting to a non-straight reader.

The couples in this story are shipped together by the readers and the author has stated that he does not particularly care for pairings beyond the main characters.He has not changed any of the canon sexualities in the story, so if you want an LGBT pair, write an omake for it.

* HilariousInHindsight: At one point, Izuku has to fight against Monoma (who has a Semblance that copies other people's Semblances) and his key concern is not letting him copy One For All due to fear that Monoma would kill himself. About a year later, and the 1A vs 1B arc of the canon manga begins, with Izuku having the exact same fears. There, though, it turns out that he was worried for nothing- Canon Monoma ''did'' manage to copy One For All (unlike Quest Izuku, who avoided that), but since a key part of it is the stockpiled energy (which the copy version did not have) it was practically useless for Monoma.

** The Wolpertinger Saga was a series of omakes written in 2018 about a trip to the Emerald Forest on behalf of Port to hunt Wolpertingers, a type of Grimm that resemble a jackalope (rabbit with horns). Gorilla Fingers decided to make that canon, and would (when the time was right) make it part of the main quest. As the arc was starting to wrap up in quest, season seven of RWBY debuted and revealed actual Jackalope Grimm.

Trivia

* OutdatedByCanon:
** When the story started, the author said that Salem would be an EldritchAbomination whose visage has driven men to madness (specifically mentioning Tyrian Callows) and that the Grimm are her eyes and ears. That she is something from beyond time and space, something incomprehensible. [[spoiler: Volume Six of canon RWBY actually gave her a backstory - she was a normal human woman cursed by the gods and twisted by the powers of Darkness until she became what she is today.]] The author has confirmed that it doesn't matter, though, as he's sticking with his interpretation for consistency's sake.
** The author has also gone on record to say that he takes changes in the canon on a case-by-case basis, and that he needs time to decide what changes exist and how to slot them into the story (if he will, as he's stated that it's unlikely that he will add in the [[spoiler:"One For All has multiple Quirks"]] thing).
