* AndTheFandomRejoiced: The anime is finally getting released on DVD with a Japanese audio along with the English audio dub.

* CompleteMonster: Gihren Zabi, the Universal Century's very own AdolfHitler--a comparison he accepts with pride.

* MoralEventHorizon: Many found that Char crossed it when he [[spoiler:arranged Garma's death]]. As for Gihren Zabi, pick something that he does. Anything.

* HypeBacklash: After listening to UC fans bash the other continuities constantly, and brag about the purity and unsurpassable awesomeness of the Universal Century and MSG in particular, it can be somewhat dissapointing to watch the show, not because it's bad, but because it cannot live up to being the end all be all of anime that it's fans make it out to be. The same can be said for individual characters, particularly Amuro and Char.

* {{Wangst}} (Amuro can get pretty whiny at times. He has his reasons, of course, but even so.)

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Char, full stop (in Japan, he is just as iconic as [[StarWars Darth Vader]] to the Americans). Also Rambal Ral, given the fact that he is portrayed as an AffablyEvil.
** The mobile suit ''[[http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/msgundam/msm-04.htm Acguy]]'' has large number of fans who consider its big head, stumpy limbs and plumpy frame to be UglyCute. Its derivatives, the even more bizarre looking Agg, Juagg, and Agguguy, aren't horribly unpopular themselves considering they were never actually on the show.

* CompleteMonster: M'Quve and Gihren.

* FridgeHorror: At first glance Lalah's cheerful appearance seems out of place, considering her past is similar to that of [[GundamUnicorn another young lady]]. But then it's revealed that the Flanagan Institute considered her their star student and she was subjected to testing out Newtype weaponry, and later in {{Chars Counterattack}} Char reveals he regrets using Lalah like a machine. Adding this together, it begins to sound ''very'' similar to a certain girl in {{Zeta Gundam}} who was a Newtype guinea pig for weapons and subjected to massive amounts of torture and MindRape, while displaying an identical cheerful disposition that seemed off. [[TheWoobie No wonder Lalah seemed happy after she died.]]
** Let's not forget that, ''before'' being taken in by the Flanagan institute, Char found Lalah in the streets. Who knows what kind of life she left back then.

* MisaimedFandom: Yes, the Federation has corrupt leaders. Yes, Zeon has many good, moral, people who serve it. Yes, the Titans are bad. That being said, it's a little scary how many fans will knee-jerk a SIEG ZEON for a regime that murdered, not millions, but BILLIONS of people and continued to wipe out metropolitan centers every few years... FOR FREEDOM.

* TheWoobie Miharu Ratokie
** Lalah Sune

* MagnificentBastard: Char, he has many moments of Magnificent Bastardry throughout the series, but one of his best is when he [[spoiler: leads Garma Zabi into a trap, politely calls him on the phone, explains his motives, tells him goodbye and leaves him to die]]. YMMV on wheather you lose sympathy for Char as some see it as his KickTheDog or MoralEventHorizon moment.

** Despite being a CompleteMonster Gihren Zabi argubaly qualifies for this trope, yes [[InsultBackfire he took a comparsion to Hitler as a compliment]] and later [[spoiler: [[SelfMadeOrphan offed his own father with the Solar Ray]]]] but he's also skileld enough to manage to turn his kid brother's funeral into a chance to restore the failing morale of Zeon with a RousingSpeech. '''SIEG ZEON''', indeed!

It's apparently a combat pilot superstition that if a pilot gets into a relationship with a woman he must take an "Amulet" with him on missions or risk bringing misfortune and death on the entire squad. Though there's also the implication that Kai [[JerkAss is just making it up to screw with him]].

** And it should be noted that he stops his petulant whining about two-thirds of the way through the series.
** Still, that's two whole thirds of the dang series full of whining.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The legendary "Tomino Memo", published in a 1980 book, details the original 52-episode plan for the series. Hitting the high notes: Kycilia attempts to take over Luna 2, but gets killed as Solomon falls. There are a lot more Newtype pilots who end up getting slaughtered (including one who kills Lalah for "consorting with the enemy"). Bright gets the hots for Degwin's secretary, who turns out to be a spy. Amuro personally guns down Gihren, and Char refuses to leave A Baoa Qu as it self-destructs, apparently dying. There were also a bunch of new mobile suits, most of which were drawn up and became part of the rejected sequel proposal ''MS-X''.
